A new flywheel is roughly $850 if needed. So it can cost $2k if they replace everything.

I was not aware they can resurface the 996 dual-mass flywheel.

Is a simple scrub with sandpaper or a flex-hone carbide based abrasive the same as 'resurfacing' a flywheel? I would imagine negligible amounts of material are removed to affect the balance of a dual mass flywheel. This is obviously not the same as milling the flywheel.

I have never heard of a flywheel needing to be replaced due to smearing of clutch material on the flywheel surface.
