Default Rusty rotors..how to keep clean

All, I'm doing some spring cleaning on the pcar and wondered if anyone has any tricks to remove rust from their rotors and keep them looking clean. I was hoping to avoid wheel removal, but that may be the only method. Thanks in advance.

Talk about feeling like a newbie...that might help. I suspect the winter in the garage hasn't helped huh?

After you wash it, take it for a drive. Just a little heat will do it. Doesn't take much.

When my mechanic did my big rebuild, he sprayed them with a coat of flat BBQ rust paint. Where the pads contact will wear off in a matter of yards. And the rest is protected from rusting for some time.

Do you mean the rotor disc or the "top hat" portion?

Isn't the hat aluminum? I meant the rotor or one piece.

Not as bad as many states, but we've gotten more weather than normal this winter. I'm really looking forward to my first full spring with her. New tires coming on Friday, Zaino on Saturday, local PCA meet and great on Sun. I hope the weather holds.

The top hats are painted in a flat gray. They rust pretty quick unless you spray them with something like caliper paint before you put them on. Not too bad of a job topaint the ones on the car already, maybe 2 hours total. After a year & 4k miles, mine still look freshly painted.

How did you get the rust off before painting? Elbow grease?
