A wire brush will work pretty well,--along with that elbow grease.

A word of caution though, after washing, make sure you drive the car for a while that the brakes/rotors are hot enough to dry off. Do not just drive the car and brake down your driveway just for the sake of rubbing off the rust. You won't like the "rust-sludge" that remains around your pads!

Just an addition from experience . . . DON'T put the car in the garage wet and put on the parking brake. . . (Only did this once)

+1
I sometimes "roll" the car out w/o starting it to avoid a start - short run - stop - load - start - go... I did that oncde and it was stuck, thought something was wrong or I had become really weak !

After washing, I use my leaf blower to get most of the water out of the rotors. Otherwise I get rusty water spraying the inside of my clean wheels.

I used one of those flapper sanding attachments on a battery powered drill. The rust flies off. Then I used a wire wheel on the same drill to polish out the rust in the crevices. Takes about 5 minutes per wheel that way. Vacuum & compressed air to clean away the rust dust, then wipe down with auto paint prep. Tape and protect body work, then apply 5 light coats of spray caliper paint. Uses less than one can. I had the car on 4 jackstands and did all 4 rotors assembly line style. Let dry overnight. You can read the part numbers and min thickness numbers through the paint and see the machining marks, where it was just rust before. Makes wheel cleaning easier too. Including raising the car, and wheel removal, just under 2 hours.

+1 for the great idea. I need to drive my car after it's been cleaned, and I never thought of that. Of course it will be one more thing for my neighbors to laugh me about.

She's out of the garage today and what a difference....still can't believe I asked the question. Full detail and pics this weekend. Thanks again for all the "technical" assistance.

Yeah, I do that too, but I have an electric Black&Decker blower, so it's not that loud. Some neighbors who pass by on their evening walks just give me "That-kinda-smile" when they see me doing that.

The LeafHog's actually quite powerful, so a pretty effective technique to get water out of crevices and all over the car.
