I don't think they are aluminum, my magnet says steel.

I thought aftermarket holds up longer which equals better. It is not as prone to gravitational pulls..

Chart505,
I just couldn't resist the opportunity to thank you for this thread. You are a leader and I think it would behoove all of us followers oogling your wife here to reciprocate. We need to give eternal life to this thread by anty-ing up as well. However, none of those professional models/photos from the "I'd hit it!" thread. I suggest, as above, that they be potential calendar girls for next year's GoR calendar. Just be sure she is willing and knows it, or your hoods will get creased far beyond "barely visible" (pun intended).
But Chart, this is your thread. I can hardly wait until Wednesday. If you want the ooglers to put then say so. Otherwise, I am quite satisfied with whatever morsels you pitch our way with your beautiful wife.

I was trying to figure out how a thread about "hood ornaments" could get to five pages. Bravo!

While we're waiting....

Has anyone ever noticed before that certain versions of the "Flying Lady" hood ornament, she actually appears to be on her knees?

Indeed Dave. And while we wait for Wednesday.... Are we there yet?
Here's an interesting link on the "Flying Lady" From the text: -"Arond the end of the twenties a new body line of Sports Saloons had reduced the height of the coachwork. Royce was prompted to think about a lower variation of the Spirit of Ecstasy, by which alteration a driver might benefit from clear vision even with the windscreen lower and his seating position reduced in turn. The scultor (Sykes) created a kneeling version of the mascot, which fulfilled this requirement.

The kneeling version remained after the Second World War for the new Silver Wraith and Silver Dawn. All following models, however, sported a standing mascot, although this has now been reduced in size considerably compared to the old one"-

Problem is aftermarket cans are prone to rupture.

Agreed! I think that the more photos the better. We just need some good weather so that I can get my wifey to pose with the car.

...man, I badly need a beach vacation.

And unless they're made of good high quality silicone, then they just don't feel right.
