good to hear... I dont think I would worry about them installing a "fake" clutch, but take a black sharpy and write the date and sign the new parts...(even a fake signature will do) tell them when you take them out you want to know how long they were in...

thanks for the update

You should be able to feel the difference in the new clutch unless your current clutch has little wear only... When mine was changed at only 28K miles, wow what a difference in stiffness feel, the new clutch is so much lighter and smoother than the old worn down one. Cheers...

after my weekend helping out install a new tranny in a 99 C2, i have no doubt when mine is due, I will DIY it...for now its holding on (though maybe a bit heavy)
you are smart to swap it while the tranny is out for the RMS even if it's not worn it could be oiled up....

$445 clutch... free install. No brainer. Glad it all worked out for you!

whats a dealer (or indy) charge that would be considered a "fair price" for the install as a stand alone job just to do the clutch assy ?

Wouter,

I am glad that worked out for you. I doubt that a dealer would do that (not install the new clutch) and say they did it. It would set them up for a big, BIG law suit.

Nice work. Simply ask to have the old clutch placed in the new clutch box; take a look at it when you get home. I always ask to keep the old stuff for inspection.

That's a great deal and it sounds like everything is working out nicely.

I am a Tech for Leith Porsche in Raleigh, not too far from you. I see you got it all sorted out, there is no reason that a dealership should ever try and charge you for installing a new clutch, as was stated earlier, the clutch is out anyway, its normally an upsell "while your in there". Normally the reason the clutch "feels" so much better is because you get the buildup of dust off the sleeve the throwout bearing rides on, and very lightly lube it, thats normally the heavy feeling with a clutch with miles. The IMS update is not just 3 bolts, it is replacing the flange seal, the o-ring on the IMS its self, and if its a really old car you need to replace the flange itself. HTH, Good luck, glad it happened before your CPO ran out. Like was pointed out earlier though, spending a few more dollars right now and buying the clutch from your dealer could help you in the long run if you need help from Porsche your dealer is the one batting for you, I have seen Porsche pick up the entire dime because all services were performed at a dealer, i have seen engines, transmissions etc replaced out of warantee multplie times. Just my .02

Well, all done... new clutch, new RMS and 4 weeks left on my CPO!

Not a clutch expert, but attached find some pics re the old clutch... any insights... does it look warn? I thought the clutch plate was supposed to not be smooth... this one feels very smooth. Is that a sign it was at the end of its useful life?

Still quite bit of life on it, (wish you had a pic of the new one, for thickness comparison) but worth changing out, I'd say. How's it feel?

Definitely feels a bit lighter... It is not a 'night and day' type of difference in feel, but noticeable.

Wouter,

You should clean those parts really well and hang them on the wall in your study or garage. I think they would look cool.

clutch disc looks to have life left, but the pressure plate looks a little burned.. maybe from the RMS depositing oil in the area then causing that ?

You did good, now you know its new and can drive many years worry free !
