The engine is still intact -

the RMS (the second one) is still dry -

and although the value is dropping -

... this car never stops impressing me.

Today, I was driving on a wide, freshly paved 3 lane hwy, and was minding my own business about 5 over the limit, tops. Then what appeared to be a gaggle of nastily modded (v6, I think) 90s Mustangs started tailing me, driving up to the side of me, their neon and chromed out grills getting way too close for comfort...

A quick stare down a long stretch of hwy revealed no cars, so in 6th gear I started accelerating to pull away from them. They persisted. I put in a little bit more pedal, then around 4K the motor started to just feel really strong - I was looking more at the road than at my speed, but I was surprised how briskly the car was accelerating... glanced down at the speedo and was like "holy ****". Well, more like "HOLY ****!!". . I immediately got back to the speed limit - and of course the Mustangs were just tiny little specs. These are amazing machines!

This post has no real point - I was just feeling awesome behind the wheel today, and wanted to drop a thread that did not involve residuals, leaking oil, or anything busted (thank you V1).

Thanks Malakas. Nice to be able to open her up once in awhile. That's what it's for right? Good way to remind us what these 'depreciating' Porsches are still so good at doing.

So basically the Mustang drivers decided not to drive at highly excessive speeds and backed off.

Im sorry thats what you took from my post -

But to be accurate: once I was clear of other vehicles who IMO were driving in an unsafe manner, I noticed my indicated speed, and then it was me (then it was I, ??, unsure of the correct grammer here) who decided not to drive at excessive speeds.

Barn996: right on - happy motoring!

Yeah the p-car's got a top end that can't be matched by those 5 liter Mustangs. It's nice to be 'in the driver's seat' isn't it!!

that is the "dangerous" part of driving our cars. past a certain point, the car just hunkers down and gets serious. i think the biggest "problem" is that the car is so stable at speed you just don't get a sense of how fast you're going. of course that's also the appeal. man i love driving my p-car.

Thats just it -- I figured, in top gear, with maybe 50-60% throttle, how fast would the car really accelerate... At the wheel it felt really no different than cruising at 70... but when I felt another surge at 4K (!!) I looked down, and I was flying! So I immediately took my foot off and slowed it WAY down.

I mean, Im in no way trying to condone excessively fast driving - my point was more that this car just thrills - to go that fast, so effortlessly... amazing.

I pine away all the time thinking about how 9 months later the same money I spent could now buy a nice Turbo, or (with a little more ) a GT3... but the stock 3.6 has plenty of power. Now when I add that plenum and exhaust...

Exactly. The drive that Arrwin organized in NY state last summer was an eye opener for me and I realized that my car had way more capability than I did as a driver. Those guys were flying and took me up to my comfort limit - even though the car was still begging for more. It was really apparent that the car wasn't even breaking a sweat even though I was going as far as I willing to go.

There are road tracks all around the country, just begging for y'all to bring your cars to an HDPE! Take it to your local autocross, too, entry's only usually $25 and you can really feel the gs and appreciate the finer handling qualities as well

I had a similar experience to this when I first got my Porsche. I was rolling along at a reasonable speed (75 in a 65 zone if I recall) and was passed by some guy in an import doing at least 90. It just so happens there was very little traffic, the road was a gentle rise cresting a quarter mile ahead with no LOS to any possible radar traps, cop-bait was a nice pad in front of me... so I gunned it, just for a moment, and the permagrin widened. It couldn't have been more than 2 seconds, but next thing I knew, I was going 100 and I, too, said HOLY **** and immediately backed off. It's just amazing how these cars can still accelerate at 100mph just as easily as it can at 30mph. It's almost dangerous from a ticket standpoint. The acceleration curves plainly bear this out
