PORSH or Por-SCHA (pronunciation Poll)
#61
Por'-scha
This is the way I've always heard it pronounced by other owners. It's the way I've heard it pronounced in the Porsche commercials.
Some family and friends say Porsh in conversation with me, but I don't correct them; I simply use the Por'-scha pronunciation back to them in the same conversation. After enough time, I figure they'll pick up on it and change modify their pronunciation.

Are we TRYING to be LESS snobby? LMAO
I agree earlier with "if someone says Porsh I don't correct them" but I refuse to ever talk to them again ! LOL just kidding... I know most non-Porsche owners don't know or care how it is said. As in any field that uses unusual words I do think the people who are in that field or use said word on a regular basis should take the time to learn to pronounce it as correct as possible. I am sure many words in medical / science / technology ect are pronounced different by the people that use them every day, then by those who do not.
This is good stuff, keep it rolling

I can't believe no one has mentioned the 3rd pronunciation that is used only by 996 owners after they have had an IMS failure or their engine has grenaded..... Pour-****!

Might as well go for 6 pages!
Of course it has other meaning as well???
Pour **** (for the crappy IMS design).... Poor **** (for the dude with the IMS failure)... **** Poor (after the new engine)...

My favorite part of this whole thread is the way everyone completely ignored the little 993 owner's baiting on page two. Now that's funny!
Obviously it's a two syllable word. Just as obviously you have to be a real asshat to go around correcting people who say it wrong.

I met Hans Peter Porsche at the 07' PCA Parade Dinner and he pronounced it, "Por-Sha" in two syllables and any fool would assume he knows how to say it correctly.........ZP44

I have a higher opinion of Newbies than I do of 993 trolls, and you know how I feel about Newbies!

Sorry, but this poll is bogus. If it had simply asked whether Porsche is a one or two syllable word it would be valid, and would have a clear correct answer (i.e. two). However, as the correct pronunciation is not one of the options, the poll cannot be answered correctly. I explained the correct pronunciation a while ago in a different thread, so you should be able to search for it. All I will say is go to Germany (in fact go to Stuttgart) and pronounce Porsche using one of the two options from the poll and see how many people laugh at you, and then decide for yourself.
BTW, Porsche's marketing department realizes how linguistically challenged Americans are, and they dumb down the pronuciation for us. This doesn't mean the pronuciation they use is correct, just that they are smart enough to not push their customers out of their comfort zone (and thus out of their showrooms) with something so unimportant.
