Yes the waves from the Suburban get about 100% no reply as the driver (me) remembers... STUPID CHEVY!
I am thinking that as winter comes more drivers will wave as the "fair weather" drivers are replaced by die hards! (sorry about the fair weather comment)

unless I keep driving that damn Chevy! Here in Seattle the daytime highs have been in the low 60's for what seems like a month with plenty of RAIN RAIN RAIN!! I drove today and will just deal with the mess later, I cant stand to wait for the sun to come back (9 more months?)

I'm really bad at waving at the Toyota MR2's - from a distance, they look like a 911. For the record, I've never had one wave back Cayennes never wave either, in my experience. Boxsters usually do, unless it's a woman driving - I guess that's a global thing - seems like everyone here has had the same results.

I will have to start paying more attention when in my 996 but in my VW or Audi I always get other VW and Audi owners to wave back or wave first.

Read this thread this morning. About an hour ago, just saw a Cayman in the opposite direction at a light and waved - he waved back.

Don't see too many 911's where I live. I've gotten the lights/wave and given them back when I can.

I'm in SF, Calif and I used to get the wave all the time in my boxster....but never before that in my '80 911SC, and not now in my '02 C2.

it is kinda weird

I don't think some of the newer car owner realize YOUR in a Porsche too. It may be older or a different model. I REALLY think you have to be a P-car person to notice other drivers...some just aren't and never will be. Some just own the car because its a PORSCHE.

I used to get waves all the time...in my 1960 Austin-Healey bug-eye sprite, but I've yet to get a wave in my Porsche.

I waved at 2 997's today, at slow speed, one odd look and one that just kept his head straight, I don't think his eyeballs moved. Must have been a new car and was worried about traffic.

I dunno - I started riding a motorcycle last year after 20 years without. That was my "pre-pcar" amusement. I couldn't get over the waves - it tickled me, and still does. I ride a euro-bike (BMW) and it's funny how the Harley guys can be too cool to wave at you, or they put the hands down low and point - what's that all about??? I stick my hand up high and wave like the friggin' queen of England just to throw 'em.

Anyhow - it's now in my nature to wave, and of course, I'm a car guy, so I notice everything on the road coming or going. In the past two or three months of ownership, I wave whenever I can - preferably with window down already - but sometimes I jam my hand against the window - that's just sad...

In my experience on the bike, I get probably 85% returns (50% for HD riders), and it's rare I don't initiate. In the 911, I probably get well over 50% and I'm simply committed to keeping a lost tradition alive... and you know what??? Who cares if you don't get a return - they could be busy, pre-occupied on a cell phone (geeez that irks me), or too into themselves... either way, they'll probably think about it next time someone flashes or waves - so I'm not gonna stop.

And the best of all circumstances (for the "available" drivers) is that they'll pick up a hot woman in a Ferrari like one of the prior posters did... Who cares about rejection - we're driving one of the coolest cars on the planet.

This morning on the 17th between Los Gatos and San Jose I passed two 997 S.
One silver with two guys aboard. They saw me, I saw the driver pointing the 4S in the back mirror (something like "look, a turbo behind us" - people always think it's a turbo). I'm on their right and wave them... no anwser.
The other 997S, dark grey is just in front. A woman. I could verify the theory exposed by several guys above : women don't reply. She just ignored me.
They were driving like turttles: the woman slaloming between lanes, but at 65. The guys at 65 on the left lanes. Well I kicked the 4th and took next exit with my favourite curve and let these idiots behind.

The spirit has been lost, men
Too many young and rich guys buy a Porsche because it's beautiful and looks sporty. They should buy a Jag instead of a sport car.

I do the traditional 2 quick flashes to everyone from 914 up, with the exception of cayennes. I get about a 50-65% response. Response seems mostly the same in the Boxster except for some more frequent cold shoulders as expressed from some owners above (both 996/997). Come on guys, where's the love?

I'm old school. I drove my father's 1968 912 while I was in high school during the late 60s and early 70s. All porsches flashed or wave at each other. Now days when I flash about half the time I get a wave. Never a flash. Too bad.
