Default Drilling hole in muffler to let out moisture. Have you done this?

Some time ago someone recommended creating a small hole at the bottom of a muffler to let out excess moisture. Idea was to prevent rust on the inside. Is this nonsense? Seems iffy, especially with salt getting into the inside of the muffler in the winter and making the situation worse.

What's the suggestion for tractors with their exhausts pointing straight up during a rainstorm?

They need one of those cool flapper valves that bounce at idle.

The muffler on my 89 GT actually came with a weep hole in it.

a coffee can also works to cover the hole while it rains... but I think it blows off if the motor is on...(unlike the flapper thing) ? or does it mix the water and make coffee ala' exhaust pipe ?

Driving the car seems to push the water out, I live in Seattle and if I had a tiny hole in my muffler it would fill up while parked as that is about where the water line is in most places....

Only if you want your car to sound like it's spitting all the time AND you want to rust the muffler out even faster

Drive the car more often and you should encounter less car issues as a whole. Once the car runs for 20 minutes the muffler should get hot enough to evapoate all the moisture that is in it.

Haha.... I knew I'd get hammered for this one. I drive my car lots, so no worries there. The root of my question was with whatever residual there might be once the engine is shut off. I guess the answer is no!
