Does this kit require the modifications the K&N kit does?

Im not sure I understand your question, + Im not familiar with K&N.

This red tube replaces the stock flex tube from the air box to the throtle body, eliminating the sound suppresion sub box in which the red cap is on.

If that is all you have to do with this kit then it is far easier to install than the K&N. You have to few areas you have to modify during it's install so that was why I asked.
Thanks for the info

I see. Yeah, no offense to K&N owners, but I not in favor of their(k&n) cleaning solution that needed to be sprayed onto the filter which often fouls the Mass Air Flow Sensor.

This cold air hose and cap produces noticeable fierce bass-y on acceleration.

I agree with you Mike, K&N are great for flaps or carbs, but suck with hot films and hot wires. I mean on a car that is not opened and cleaned every thousand miles.
Hot wire are supposed to self cleaning by oil deposit on hot wires always suck.

Does the kit you have for sale contain other than the smooth silicon pipe and a coark ? What is that coark for ?
Since it doesn't require any modification I can be interested (with a set of springs, a good set of tires and a good setup...)

BTW do you know why is it called 'Cold air intake' since it only affects the pipe after the airbox ? How can it be colder than before?

Good question But Fabspeed advertise it as such. Here's their write up from their website

Description:
-Fits all 996 Vehicles 1998-2005

-25% better Airflow = More Power

-Any 996 with JUST the COLD AIR performance enhancement kit installed will make any 996 with STOCK mufflers
sound as if you have added a mild performance exhaust. Perfect for any 996 owner that wants his car to sound
slightly more aggressive than stock. SEE Before & After video.

-Finest true hi-performance COLD-AIR intake system available.

-Adds 1.5 Liters cold air by eliminating muffler in airbox. This allows engine to draw cold air across entire topside of air box (left and right rather than just from the right).

-.42 seconds faster acceleration 3000-6000 RPM. 4 ply silicone tube - better flow from airbox to throttle body. No C.E.L. light as you retain the factory MAF plastic screen/grill to straighten out airflow.

The kit includes only the Tube and the air box muffler cover(red cap).

Why are you getting rid of it and what are you replacing it with?

I've seen this Fabspeed ad for this before. The red tube contains some type of invisible space age vortex, that not only speeds up the air, but cools it at the same time. The red cap keeps the whole thing from imploding. I think NASA developed it for the shuttle. jk

I would take it very relatively.
A shark skin can improve a better flow by creating a column of vortex on the sides of the pipe, but has nothing to do with cooling.
Air can't be cooler and faster than it is at the entry of the intake system except if the pressure is lower, which in absolute is not good (less pressure = less oxygen = less power).
Best case it's better than the original system - what I don't doubt about since air boxes have always been restrictive- but can't do any kind of magic like cooling the air by moving it because movement = friction = heat. It probably reduces frictions, meaning heats air less than the original system, But it can't cool it.
