Max wheels and tires.

Front: 17x9.5 with ET50 with a 275/40/17 Hoosier. Fits but rubs on inside at the spring. 5mm spacer is ideal so ET45 and lower is recommended. Will size down to a 265 or 255 in the future.

Rear: 17x11.5 with ET60 with a 315/35/17 Hoosier is the max that I can get in there. Had to trim the inner liner at the bottom front to fit w/o any rub. Fender lip was rolled as well. There seems to be a bit more room on the inside once the liner was trimmed.

One thing that I migh consider getting is the High Performance Oil Separator from Porsche p/n 996 107 926 00, it is not a performance upgrade but it will prevent oil from going into the intake manifold and making our porkers smoke when driven hard at corners.. also I would consider the baffles and the spacer for the oil pan wich adds 0.5 QT ...

If I did the math right, a 3.6 will make 460 ft/lbs of torque @ 450hp!!!!!!

Ignorant question.....................is it really a big deal to have an LSD for the street?
Since there isn't enough torque to "smoke" the tires on a quick takeoff, what advantage is there to having one?

I've checked out that t-t-p.de site before when I had a Boxster S... 450hp upgrade. It's mad expensive and I don't know anyone in the US that has purchased and installed their systems.

I wonder why the local shop TPC doesn't do Turbo on 996s?

It is probably not needed even on the track. I would say you don't need LSD until you supercharge/turbocharge.

LSD is really only needed on the track and even then for folks that are pushing it pretty hard.

As for burnouts maybe KJ can post his picture of one in his 996 C2 w/ LSD.

I guess I have LSD coz both tires made marks. I dropped at 5000 RPMs.. I was impressed how well the 996 grabbed.. the 2nd time at close to 6000 RPMs I was able to do a lil' burn out. I could never get it right in the 996 Turbo.. suffering wheelhop.

Note I only tried it once... I've never done it before that. It was actually fun.

Even at the track their is disagreement if it is a real benefit in our cars. I have never missed it in my Boxster at the track and JimB (who knows a ton about tracking 996 C2's) said he didn't need it in his 996 C2 X51 racecar.

With the rear engine configuration these cars don't have much problem putting 300+ hp to the wheels. GT2 power......that's probably a different story.

I imagine LSD would be nice to have driving in the snow.

I suppose that would be an advantage for sure but mine sleeps in the winter!

Thanks everyone for providing some insight on the +/- of LSD for the street!
