Default How to get an unused radio frequency for GPS

As you all know, if you select any frequency in the radio, it automatically advances to a station.
However, the Garmin Nuvi 680 has an FM transmitter that works with an unused radio frequency.

So the question is, does anyone know if there is a way to prevent the radio to tune in automatically?

In other words, I want 88.7 KHz on the radio so the Garmin can transmit through it, but the Porsche
radio just automatically advances to 88.9 KHz, which has a station.

Also, the Garmin has Bluetooth, and I want to use my cell through the radio as well.

Very easy to do on my POS minivan's radio.

You "direct frequency entry" if you have a CDR220. Also there is a way to turn off search, do you have the manual?

What radio is in your car?

OK here it is:
Press "arrow Down" icon, and choose radio mode.
Then within 8 seconds dial the frequency, or enter it by using the numbers on the face plate.

Why not just simply assign a pre-programmed station select PB on the radio to the bluetooth frequency...??

Gotta love the Napoleon commercial on at the moment

Music reminds me of Plastic Bertrand - Ca Plane Pour Moi (anyone remember that revived 45 from 1977?)

Sort of early Belgian/French punk.... well, sort of LOL

I had the same unit, it is good and the bluetooth works well, there is also an external mic available if you are going to hardwire, but the FM thing drove me crazy in LA, you have to change it so often. I would have hardwired, but the unit was stolen (in Culver City!).

Either I don't get what you are saying, or maybe you don't get what I was asking.
If you do not select an unused station, you would be getting music or speech,
while Garmin is outputting speech or music- at the same time.

So:
1. A pre-programmed station would have to be an unused station(static noise).

2. If you need, for example, 88.7 KHz, the radio will automatically advance to
the first available station, 88.9KHz. You would be forever rotating the frequency
dial back and forth, but never getting the unused station.

3. when you travel you have to keep on changing the FM frequency on both
the radio and the Garmin, because new stations kick in, depending on the area.

JDS, consider hardwiring (I went crazy with the FM thing, it will never be great)

Alternatively, do this (and lose your mind in short order):

1. Go to the Nuvi's FM transmitter frequency and adjust it up or down one increment
2. Turn the tuner **** 1 click.
3. Rinse and repeat until it automatically locks on the nuvi frequency (which will be stronger than all but the most powerful FM).

When you leave it on the frequency adjustment screen, it continues to broadcast a location or something which enables you to lock in using the auto tune. Don't exit the frequency adjustment screen until you are locked in and satisfied with the level of noise.

If you read the first post, i mentioned it was easy to do it (in my second vehicle).
Thanks either way.

I will look into hard wiring.

EDIT: htny I read your post too fast, and misunderstood ( sorry )
Great idea! Thanks!
