Default Is there a break-in period for a crate motor?

The dealership said there was no break-in service, but I failed to ask about a break-in period as far as speed, etc. Thanks!

Use the same recommendations as in the owner's manual for a new car.

For ~500 miles no redlines. But you do need to drive it hard enough to get the parts to mate. As I understand it, the crate motors are tested before they ship, so there is already som break-in time there.

They test our motors( limited run time) before shipping new cars, correct.

They also verify the power(hp) it's making and pull those that aren't making the claimed output.

Default From experience

Drive the new engine gently until it is fully warmed up, and give it about 1K miles before you drive it like you stole it.

I did not follow my own advice, and had a replacement motor self-destruct at 500 miles.

+1

You never want to flog a new motor.

The parts need to time to seat with each other and develop wear patterns.
