Any of you 996 guys have a factory wheel lug key? I discovered last night mine has walked away.

John A. is going to bring me one [?] today. In case he doesn't have one that will work, wanted to see if any of you local guys might have one that looks like it'll fit; I need to tonight. Thanks.

Scott, sorry that we couldn't get the job completed last night. Sucked to see the car up on the lift and ready to go only to find out that they didn't make sure your car had the lock when you bought it.

Anyway, as far as local shops, all I can think of is the dealer, that one guy that has come to a few coffee's (928 guy that has his own shop...I forgot his name), European Performance, and possibly a place like Discount Tire? If the dealer doesn't have one (or one of our coffee guys) then call European and if they have a master set of lock swing by and have them just remove all 4 locks. You'll be fine to drive the car with just 4 of 5 bolts in.

We have come across the problem before, believe it or not try Auto Zone, if you are lucky they may have a "key" for you, but unfortunately you will have to purchase the whole set as well. The gentleman that own his own shop is Paul (Black Forest industries) he is in downtown Cary. If John doesnt come through I will check to see if I can help

Call Leith - the mechanics should have a set of all the wheel lock keys.

Same thing happened to me.
$50 for a new key at dealer
$100 for key and be bolts

BUT - The dealer has a master set. (aprox 30 keys) and within about 5 minutes the service desk guy was able to just remove my bolts using his key for free. (though he tried 3 times to turn them the wrong way - I swear ! )

I found these for you $16 and comes with the key, I bought a set from him and they are perfect. I ran about 2 weeks w/o one bolt, didnt hurt anything, just dont go racing!

Bob, the chances are slim that your key will fit his bolts.

Great point, Tim. My erroneous assumption became instantly apparent to me when I read your post.

Scott,

Do you have the car with you at work? I can swing by, and get them off with the master set. I also got you a set of new wheel locks, but it sounds like they may not work with the spacers? If not, I will give them to you anyways for if/when you take the spacers off.

P.S. They no longer make the 996 wheel locks. It is now the 997 wheel locks that retrofit

Car is in the garage. I'll be home ~630 tonight. If you can arrange a quick service event, I'll bring it over to the dealer, otherwise, I'll have MPowered remove them hopefully with one of their keys.
