Instead of blocking it has anyone, just removed the airbox resonator box, so the resonator pipe direct from the open airbox?

You can't do that. The pipe is after the MAF sensor, so you'd be sucking unmetered air into the car, which would make it run rich/like crap.

At hardware stores, there are rubber caps for blocking off plumbing pipes. Most of the stock is for connecting dissimilar sizes and material of pipe, but if you look, there are also cap shaped ones.

They are very heavy duty, coming with a hose clamp, if needed. The only downside is there are just a few sizes, but likely there will be a correct fit. I'll take a look and report back.

Waste pipe end cap perfect fit screws toghether to blank off hole + remove resonator completly.

I got the port covered (stock everything else) with a black rubber leg tip from ace hardware:

It definitely improved the sound.

If and when I'll put a BMC filter I'll might consider the black silicone hose & cap from RamAir http://www.ebay.com/itm/271240831147
Still too expensive for a silicone hose..but much cheaper than fabspeed's..and it's black
