Replacing rear Carrera emblem
Couple questions for you guys.
I'm trying to replace the gold Carrera emblem with a silver one on my '99 996. I read the post about removing the emblem by heating with a hair dryer and working around it with dental floss so I gave that a try. That worked well for the areas held by glue but is looks like it's fastened to the rear deck with rivets or something similar (far left corner of the C and right corner of the last A). As you can see in the photo, the silver emblem (Part# 996 559 237 07 4PU) is slightly wider and taller than the gold so I don't think the new one will cover the holes through the deck. I am not a fan of this gold emblem but will leave it alone if I can't find good way to replace it.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Also, can anyone identify this particular gold emblem? I know I've seen it but can't remember where. It's obviously after market and seems fairly high quality.
Thanks

Agreed.
I just had the same dilema. My 996 had a black emblem which I didn't like since my car is black. I actually removed the emblem and primed and painted it with chrome paint. Got some 3M double sided auto tape and put it back on. Looks factory now and only cost $5 for the paint.

is it actually screwed down? you should check, as at least I don't think that's a standard badge on there (as pointed out its either from an old 356 or made to look like it was) and if it is attached you don't want to tug so hard that the emblem cracks or you get a little pull in the sheetmetal.
Anyway, I used fishing line and had a helper holding a heat gun (didn't really need the heat gun after one pass), but I never felt any resistance, it just sawed right off and then I removed the remaining adhesive with some solvent, cleaned with IPA and applied the new sticker. There are a lot of tutorials on here showing the process.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. It's definately mechanically attached through the deck. I was able to fish the dental floss around all parts of it except for 2 spots, one on each side. In fact, on the right side there is some play in there, as I can move the emblem about 1/16th of an inch up and down...after getting the adhesive out of course. So, if I saw it off with fishing wire, one of these holes will be exposed because of the difference in the size of the old/new emblems. I've been looking for a photo of the back side of a 356 Carrera emblem but no luck so far. That way I could see exactly what I'm dealing with before I start sawing. I'd like to strangle the guy who put this thing on here. Thanks again.

Replacing rear Carrera emblem
In case anyone runs into this here's what I ended up doing. The 356 emblem was attached with 3 studs through the rear deck. Removing the plate under the trunk lid revealed 3 clips which were easily pried off with a flat blade screwdriver. I did the best getting the rest of the adhesive from the surface and laid the new silver emblem on the deck. I only had one shot at it and managed to cover 2 7/8th of the 3 holes. I guess it came out ok but now have to deal with what's left from the old emblem, which was metal. Not sure if you can see in the photo, but the old emblem left some marks on the finish...I'm assuming it's oxidation from metal on metal. Let me know how you might go about removing that. Thanks.
