I have never been a fan of the stuck on slabs behind the rear wheels. I know Porsche had a reason to do this, but I think they rushed it or something. When you look at the Mk2 on my GT3 below, you'll see a more subtle treatment behind the rear wheels which I think works much better.
There was a comment earlier about needing the rear slabs to help balance the car with the Mk1 kit. Not sure about that. I can see the point, I just wish the rear slabs were about half as "in your face" as they are.
Wing style and 19" wheels? To each his own. I'm sticking with 18" wheels.
Cheers,

jmchris, loving your 996.
Have you thought about clear side markers?

From some angles it looks really goodt, from behind it flares a touch too much for my taste.
I have yet to see one up close, need to do so.
Wonder if the MKII would work?
Your GT3 is King, another picture wouldn't hurt

I can see why some would say it looks tacked on - I've read plenty of comments expressing this very sentiment. To this I would say without the strakes there to complete the kit, the rear end looks weaker than a bone stock MK1 because you got all this stuff everywhere except the **** end. It looks empty and from the side shot view, the rear end just drops off and is not balanced out visually. It makes your MK1 rear one of the weakest in the 911 butt kingdom.
Something needs to be put there whether you go OEM or aftermarket, but I am not aware of any aftermarket companies (e.g. Techart) making an aero bit for that rear end like they do for the 996 C4S/Turbo bumper.

Ben, just noticed this awesome thread. I am DEFINITELY going for the rear fins. Frankly, it'll be one of the cheaper upgrades. And once you see how the line continues from the rocker panels (side) to the rear bumper, it absolutely looks naked without it. Now, waiting for parts, a little paint, and an install.
