Question I think I got screwed on a RS front lip?

Hey guys.

I ordered a RS front lip from a guy on ebay and got it it several days ago and today I wrapped the packing of it and I found scratches around almost each hole and on the sides looked sanded, liked if the lip was mounted and touched the ground.

I emailed this guy and he told me they all look like this and sent me a pic with like 5 lips looking like that, I doubt this lip is orginal when its in this condition but Im not an expert.

What you guys think, and yes the auction stated ORGINAL and NEW.

That's just BS, but if can be repaired it would probably cost less then sending it back for exchange. Let us know the seller so we can be aware.

That looks strange to me. How much did you pay? Just order the cup one from TRG or FL or your dealer.

I payed like 129 euro + 90 euro in shipping, its from a german ebayer.

He sent me back an angry email when I showed him this and told me all of those looked like that and I didnt know how an orginal looks like etc... He sounded ofended of my polite email that I was not satisfied with the look of this lip and it was not new.

Anyways does someone know for sure this is used or do they look like this?

IM SCEPTIC, I DO NOT BELIVE ORGINAL NEW LOOK LIKE THIS THO, but I need proof.

looks like a fiberglass replica.
i have a 996 MK2 front splitter sitting infront of me, and if it was original and new, it shouldn't have those cracks, and it should have the 3M adhesive tape on it as well for a tight fit.

mine looks FLAWLESS and is made of plastic (might be poly, but more likely it is ABS plastic).

if u need pics i can take em later this week.

sounds like the NOBY spending spree is rolling onward

My MK I splitter was not scratched when I received it.

I'm not sure that it would matter though considering that the scratched part you showed would be mated up flush against the bumper paintwork and buried.

To be honest, even if it were not buried, then it probably wouldn't matter as the splitter gets so much abuse from being scraped up on curbs that it's a moot point. I've just come to the conclusion that I'll end up replacing mine at some point.

I'm not sure it's even that high - if it's the same part as the splitter, then I think I paid $60 from my local dealer for the MKI aero kit splitter.

Guys tell me where to buy this rs lip online in the usa if it cost like 130 dollars?

About this rs lip, its made of plastic I think, no fiberglas as its flexible and I also have that MK1 lip and that one is scratchless.

I got one more angry email from the german dude, here are some parts of it

"This is a Race Part from the 996 GT3 Cup and there are many thinks different . No Way to find a Lip like that in the normal Porsche Program .

Normally you color that part and after that you see nothing .

You will not understand that this Part is in that condition of the end trimming of the producing ."

Should I trust him?

It looks like a hastily removed used part. That said it will see a ton of abuse anyway and your money has been spent so just mount it and forget about it. The extra money spent sending it back and then likely getting further abused by the seller is not worth it imho.

Well you have two datapoints on this thread thus far stating that as received their splitters did NOT look like that so you have some confirmation that they do not arrive that way. I would not consider that a new part.

NOBY,

Stop the presses. They all look like that. I just went out in my garage to look at my spare CUP lip that I purchased new from TRG and it looks identical to yours. Those are not scratches they are casting marks. Why they are there I don't know but they all have them. The other thing and none of the lips come with the 3M double sided tape premounted, that is something you do yourself. Any auto store has the red 3m double sided tape.

Cheers, -Paul
