And again I ask.. whats the difference between these two other than aesthetics? They are both a tube and a plug? correct?
mark...like i said the fabspeed has provisions to elimate the muffler box entirely from the inside of the air box. the shnell does not. also i believe the fabspeed unit incorporates the plastic screen within the airbox to improve flow. i do believe that the elimination of the muffler box from within the air box does improve the amount of air across the top of the filter. wheather this warrants the additional cost i do not know...but definately the schnell does not appear to do anything imo...
Does anyone have experience with an EVO installation on an X51 motor?
Thanks
Mike
Yes, I installed one on my X51 C4S. The only difference is that you need to order it with the tiptronic intake tube. The tiptronics and the X51 have an additional "breather" line between the MAF and the throttle valve.
Besides sound, what has been your experience with the EVO on an X51?
Any CEL issues?
Fit / Clearance issues ??
How about seat-of-pants dyno or have you had it actually dynoed?
I am running GHL Loud mufflers and the sound is incredible so this might really finish it off.
Anyone have instructions on how to swap out the filter on the EVOMS unit?
I've not done it on mine yet (as they only need cleaning every 30-50K), but it appears to just be a matter of loosening the ring clamp and sliding it off.

30K eh? I guess I have about 10K left then. Instead of cleaning, I just bought a new one.
The fit is tight. Not much room if any to slide it off in that box.

The milage depends on use and dust in your area. I think that K&N have a pretty wide range for cleaning intervals (if my memory is correct).
To be honest, that's what I'll end up replacing mine also. When mine needs cleaning I'll replace it with one of these and remove the hassle of having to deal with oil and risking messing up the MAF.
Wait, so you're saying K&N because the air filter is a K&N for the EVOMS intake unit?
My filter looks pretty dirty meaning it's got some crusties in the folds.
Well, the filter I have on my EVO unit is a K&N.
Here's a photo of my engine bay.... You can see that it's tight, but I figure that if it cannot be wiggled out, then I would take off the MAF, then remove the intake from the engine to get to the filter - a bigger pain, but still not that much hassle, as all of the clamps are easily accessible.
