I noticed today then if I moved the steering left or right even half an inch, I could hear a creaking noise (kind of those rocking old wooden boats) from the passenger side wheel well (it did not matter if the engine was running or not). Curious, I took the wheel off to see where exactly it was coming from. Did not find much and mounted the wheel back and now the noise is gone.
This reminds me of the Windows 95 days. Oh well!

Nicolas, I am surprised to find how many Porsche owners have an X5 as their first/second car. There are a few in my neighborhood that have the same color combo as yours.

Hey guys, I just picked up this little noise too, so what's the diagnosis?
Everything seems fine with the steering and fluids, just that odd creaking noise.
Thanks

I also had the same creaking!!! Drove me insane!! Funnily enough it started one afternoon after I pressure washed under my wheel wells! It occurred to me that perhaps something got dry!!! I got my wife in the car and asked her to turn the wheel whilst I held the top of the shock and spring. I could feel that the vibration there was quite strong... There's a white (looks like nylon) spacer on top of the spring which is where most of the noise was coming from. I sprayed some WD40 directly at this area while moving the steering wheel from side to side, and eureka! my creak disappeared almost immediately.
It's a good idea to have some shop towels around to wipe of the excess. Hope this helps?
