Default Exhaust Cutout/Bypass Switch

Has anyone installed an exhaust turndown/cutout on their car yet? I'd be curious to know if it was possible, that way i can go from full bypass for track/scaring neighbors ...to silent mufflers again when cruising long distances.

I have it on my car and I disabled the speed cutout (so it's either full loud or full quiet)

To be honest, I rarely use the quiet mode.

Thought about this as well. Big with the muscle car crowd....lets you go from mild to wild with the flick of a switch.

BTW: this is not PSE folks, this would be like bypassing the mufflers altogether the way the Muffler Bypass pipes sound.

^ bingo.

what size is the piping on our cars again? 2.5? 3"?

i was looking at the QTE cutouts and they look like they would work...as long as there's enuff room to weld/clamp them in place.

something like this... http://www.dmhperformance.com/

though where would it fit on the porsche exhaust since there are no midpipes due to the engine being in the rear?

on the cat pipes?

This would be a good solution for those of us that yank our mufflers and install the bypass pipes for track days. Would negate the weight savings of that approach but would retain the engine cooling of getting rid of the hot gases without heating up the cats and muffles.

anyone happen 2 have a pic of the underside of a 996 on them?
the piping is pretty tight down there...i think we'll be hardpressed to find the space to install the cutouts.

the only place they would fit is after the cat's....on that long, straight tube section that runs out to the mufflers.

If I did it, I would put them after the headers and before the cats. More beneficial for the track days.
I would just have to hit the switch at T5 and then open at T8 I run Laguna Seca 92db

I agree, the largest gains would be before the cats.... Kinda hard to do since there isn't very much pipe length from the header connector to the cat itself.

If you did that with no modification to fuel control, you would most likely lose performance (and probably damage the engine) and you would definately hurt your powerband regardless of what else you did to your NA engine.
