Please note that there is a TSB about updating the old style hardtop mounts to newer ones. The new ones are much better and solve the loud clunking sounds. Do a search and you will find the TSB here and over on Renntech.

Well, after 3 weeks my hardtop has officially started creaking so much I can’t take it anymore. I tried lubing all the contact points and seals with no luck.
I have the 10 page “noises in hardtop” tech bulletin 6102 which explains how to fix all the different types of “squeaking, creaking, grating, clicking, crackling & rattling” coming from different locations, but it’s confusing to say the least.
Since my noises are "creaks" caused by the interior trim pieces rubbing together I need to remove the roof strip clips (via spatula) and then remove all the interior trim panels & their fastening elements. Once removed, insolate all the contact points with foam rubber, felt, felt tape, or tricot tape.
Questions –
Has anyone eliminated noises from trim pieces in the hardtop without tearing it apart?
Is it difficult to remove all the interior trim?
How many hours should an indy or dealer charge to fix this?
I’d be happy to email this bulletin to anyone who wants it, or post it here if possible?
Thanks

Remove the hard top. Now before you start to rip it apart, try this. Inside the slots where the top goes into over passenger and driver. Tighten up the alan type screws in there. Yes under a little cover. Then lightly smear o ring grease or vasoline around the entrance of all three acceptance slots along the top of the wind screen. The same smear on anything that sticks out on the hard top that goes into anything on the car. Then lightly smear the same amount on the actual posts at the rear of the hard top. They look like large springs with a point on them. Tighten anything you can find on the center of the hard top. Put the top back on and try it again. If that doesn't solve it then rip it apart haha.

Is the plastic piece missing from the front latch. Is the latch pulling the top in enough. If that's loose then the top will rattle.
