Default 30k service for $1,300?

I have my 1999 C2 in the shop as we speak for a 30k service. Without giving the name of the shop (indy, highly recommended with Porsche racing history, and a hell of a nice guy) do you think that $1,300 plus tax is reasonble. In addition he quoted me $312 to install a B&M short shifter and $200 to install some aluminium pedals. I'm located in Los Angeles, CA.. What do you think?

Ouch. That seems a bit high to me. I just had a 60K service done and it was substantially less. And as I understand it, the 60K is the "big" one... Came with belts, plugs, air filter, and some other goodies. And the price wasn't near $1300.

That actually sounds like dealer pricing to me

I paid 850 for a 60K......and that is supposed to be a big one.
install your own pedals....it isn't that hard.

Depends on what they are doing. Did you get an itemized breakdown? That will tell us if you are getting bent over. As of now it looks that way and dear God, $312 to install the SSK? I hope that includes the part. You can pick them up for $200 and install is less than 1 hour if you know what you are doing.

I just got done doing Maxspeed aluminum pedals a week ago. I was a bit nervous in the drill job but it turned out to be easier than I thought, once I got past the minor mental block. I read all the install posts on this site before starting. I even took an additional step in bolting on the aluminim pedal once my first hole was done so my second pilot hole would be perfect. Meassure/mark twice, take your time and I am sure you can do it in one hour.
Sounds like this service tech uses lube, nice guy.

Shop around. I just had my 90,000 mile service done for $600. A different dealer quoted about $1200 to do the same service. There are those that gouge and those that don't.

Does K-Y jelly come in 55 gallon drums? If so, buy some so you can relax while the service manager bends you over his desk. That price should also include a "reach around." Get another quote somewhere else.

Install the SSK and the pedals yourself. If you can turn a screwdriver and operate a rachet set you can install the SSK in under 2 hours. Pedals should take less than an hour.

I recently had the 60K done by a dealer for less than a grand and they trailered the car 70 miles there and 70 miles back to my house.

try BBI in Huntington Beach. Newer shop but the guys are very good. Both came from ALMS race teams.

Make sure they use automatic transmission fluid instead of gear oil, thinner lube is better in this "situation".

That is the most absurd amount for a 30K I have ever heard. I did my own with $100 in parts and completed it in ~1hr.

30 only calls for:
oil and filter change
air filter change
cabin air filter change
inspection

possibly a brake fluid change if it has been 2years

Service manual DOES NOT call for:
serpentine belt
spark plugs
transmission fluid change

SSK install, your price listed if it does not include the part is ridiculous! Part is $200, labor should be no more than 1 hour.

Pedal set install, again does that include parts? Install should be no more than 1 hour.

Sounds like you are getting bent over. Look somewhere else.

Check the quotation, if they are charging you for muffler bearings or blinker fluid, run!

I paid $1200 for my service mainly because I wanted to have Porsche check the car over, I never had a PPI performed.

So here was my itemized list:

Oil filter
Alum Seal Ring
Mobil 1 oil
Cabin Air Filter
Spark Plugs
Air Cleaner Cartridge
Wiper blades
LMA brake Fluid
MOC Fuel System Flush
z32 Z-Max 32 oz Bottle
Labor was $517

Total after tax: $1202.00

They said the car was is great shape so I guess I paid for reassurance.

I'm actually going to pick up the car later on today, but here is a list of what's included in the 30k service (this is the breakdown on the estimate):
Change Oil & filter, electronic systems diagnosis, replace air filter, check polyrib drive belt, replace fuel filter, replace passenger compartment pollen filter, change gearbox oil, replace spark plugs, perform compression test. Labor $812.50, parts $361.00, tax $30.00, hazardous waste/supplies $15.00, Total $1,218.00. I'll let you guys know what the final invoice is after I pick it up

The '99 maintenance booklet that came with the owner's manual does spec plugs at 30K. It's listed on page 4, ahead of the "major maintenance" list.
