Default Sirius Static - Does FM Direct Audio Relay Help?

I have the Stiletto 2 with a car dock kit in my 996. I don't have trouble getting a satellite signal but I do get a lot of static and have to tune to two or three different FM channels to get the best sound to the Bose stereo when driving around.

I don't want to use the FM wires that come with the car dock but want to eliminate all the static noise and it seems to get worse at night when I turn on the lights. What's weird is it seems like it is ground noise that I am getting.

Would this FM direct audio relay fix the static problem? Anyone use the stiletto with the FM Direct audio relay? Were you able to install it yourself?

My 996 has Sirius in the HU but I use a Stiletto in my SUV. Static was an issue until I went FM direct. This forum might have some ideas for you - it's a must read for anyone with sirius.

If you have a MOST system, then SOL, but if you have a pre-MOST system, get the AUX-IN kit from Becker and hook it up as a direct input! I did that on my wife's CAB and she can listen to her iPod, XM, etc, all with a direct line.

Sort of a newbie when it comes to porsches but what is meant by MOST system?

OK does this sound right to you? I just went to drop of the car to get my fm direct connect for the stiletto 2 installed and they said they can't install it (after starting the installation) because the factory bose stereo has an 8v FM antenna amplifier. I asked them if they could circumvent it and they said no. My 996 is a 2003 without nav.

Anyone else experience this?

I'm not very knowledgeable about the MOST system so hopefully others will chime in. IIRC, it's akin to a fiber optic type system so you run into communication problems with traditional wiring like the pre-MOST systems. I have done ZERO radio improvements in my GT3 so I have no idea what the potential issues are. THe pre-MOST systems were very easy to install the AUX-in kit.

As far as the FM antennae you need to get a converter as the plug is different. I think I had to do that when I installed a hard wired FM kit in my Cayenne without NAV so you should be able to do that very easily.

It could be the radio too. I just changed radios in my other cars in what I thought was an upgrade. The old radios worked fine, no static. In both cars now, a Mini and an Audi A4, there is static with the satellite radio. I took the radio out of the Porsche and put it in there and I get no static. I put the new radio in the Porsche and we get static. So it is the two new radios and I am sending those radios back and going to try another model

i had an 05 c4s and sound advice installed the fm diret connect with no problems. i had the bose as well. currently on my turbo, i just have the unit installed without the fm direct. my car comes with MOST and i do not know if this might be an issue. do not know if my c4s came equipt with MOST. i've heard from guys, which had MOST in their cars, completely re-wire their cars because of the incompatability between MOST and aftermarket audio/vedio installations.
