My opinion is that the PPI is much more important than who you buy it from. It's well worth the money to have the Porsche dealer go through it, assuming that the BMW dealer and the Porsche dealer are not owned by the same company. I bought my '02 C4S (32k miles) from the Bentley/Maseratti dealership earlier this year and had an independent Porsche mechanic check it out. He gave it a clean bill of health. I've had the car for about 6 months and I couldn't be happier! No issues whatsoever and I still get a big smile every time I fire the car up. For what it's worth, $46k is a smokin' deal.

Mick - if the deal on this car doesn't work out for you, I have a 2004 C2 for sale at $44,000.

One item of a thorough PPI on these cars is to have the oil filter removed and cut open looking for swarf or metal bits. Well worth the cost of an oil filter and a little bit of oil.
