Default 996 back seats are they safe?

All being in perspective how safe are the back seats of the 966? One of my key decision making factors looking C4s over NSX was the back seats as crazy as that may sound. the option to have my wife and younger child with me on short drives is very appealing to me...... had a few people say the back seats are not functional at all and would never trust the safetly of a yound child back there. is this true? please advise and apologize in advance if this is a dumb question.... thanks all

Use it all the time with my 2 yr old in the rumble seat. I don't see why not. The 996 is rated VERY high on crash test ratings. higher than most 4-door sedans.

+1 My five year old loves it!! When they get older you can get the airbag deactivation kit so they can sit in the front seat.

Not a concern. I read up on this, and the cars are very safe. We take our 4 month old on trips with us all the time... and yes, the back seats were a big decision in buying the car.

My 4 year old son (in recaro start) and 7 year old daughter (booster) both refuse to get in my wife's SUV when I'm home. I have no concerns over their safety, and it prevents the family from buying too much stuff when we're out.

Only things my 11 year old doesn't like about the back seat is that he can't sit in the middle or lie down. I'm happy he can't lie down as it's not exactly safe and he has a habit of drooling (which isn't safe either when done on my nice, clean upholstery ). Anyway: is it safe? I don't see why not.

[edit] Let me clarify the drooling thing.... When he lies down he falls asleep, and nap time brings on the drool. It's not like he just sits there and drools involuntarily. Honest!

Ain't that the truth. My 2 yr old calls the car "Daddy's Por-sha" and giggles when I get on the go-pedal.

Always wants me to bring her to day care. I love it. Oh...and yes, she loves it when Formula One season is in full swing. Check this

I agree with every one here. You're getting a biased opinion here but the safety aspect of a porsche is fantastic. I have three kids and prefer to have them in the cage that a porsche has versus a SUV that thew wife drives. But I'm limited to two until RIAD tells me more about the airbag disconnect.

Pull up the "show us your damaged Porsche" thread. You'll see some pretty gnarly accidents that people made it out of.

My wife the ultimate queen of safety when it comes to the kids does not blink when I take them in the Porsche. She just tells me to go slow because the kids are in the car. I just tell the kids we'll go to ice cream parlor if they do not tell....

I went with a 996 over several other models of car because of the rear seat, too. My 4-year-old loves it, and like Chad's daughter, even pronounces "Por-SHA" correctly. I've never found a reason to be any more concerned about the 996's rear seats than any other car, unless you need a lot of leg- or headroom.

IOW, don't avoid the 996 because someone told you that your kids wouldn't be safe. I'd say that's patently false.

You can buy it from any Porsche dealer. They install it and it clips into the Porsche car seat. As soon as you clip in the car seat the airbag deactivates.

Chad, the color looks just like the color I painted my studio. I think it was Chianti.
