Yup - 2 year old in a Recaro in Daddy's "Fast Car" as opposed to Daddy's "green Car' - the Passat. It was a key decision in getting the 996 - the back seat that is.

After my daughter was born, I sold my SL500 and bought a new 2001 996 coupe. Sydney has ridden in the back since I got it. I drive her to school in it most mornings.

She (the kid) just turned 8 yesterday! Car too I guess .

I have my 3 and 5 year old girls in the back in boosters all the time (did remove the seat backs and bottoms to create more space)

Safer than when she's riding her own P car...

I always get a kick when I pull up somewhere and my kids get out of the back. Most people don't know there is a back seat.

I get some funny looks when my kid emerges from the rear of my 996, too. Usually they're from people driving something like a Grand Am and while I'm not entirely sure what they're thinking, I know I'M thinking "Man, I'm glad I'm not driving something like that."

The 996 isn't the easiest "family car" to live with, but I wouldn't trade it for anything else.

the only caution is whether their heads are below the back rest or not.

no head rest and a rear ender is not good.

A good seat (like the recaro young sport that I use) has head and side impact protection built into the seat. The combination of the safe rear design of the car and the seat design I have zero worries.
