Default A VIN (Carfax) checking thread on a diff forum

This is a sticky thread over on the CTS-V forum. Thought it was funny how different the rules are from that forum to this one. Just doesn't seem to be an issue over there, as many Caddy dealers seem happy to use their Carfax accounts to help out paying members.

Why can't we do that here? Please explain!!!

Because it's stealing.

That's not a Carfax account, that's something else. It's much more detailed than a Carfax. Possibly a dealership info lookup database?

Anyone know what it is?

How is it stealing if it is an unlimited account? I can go get as many as I want, so what does it matter if somebody else sees it? If I decide not to buy a car that I checked out, but my friend decides he might want it, is it stealing if I give him the report I just ran? Should he really go run a new report on the same car? I don't think so.

Just my opinion. I'm sure there are plenty who disagree, and that's fine.

Gant, you know the answer to this question - John D has told you himself, so have many other members. You're being a troll, stop it.

For the newbies around here he's the word from the Big Cahuna (John D)

https://rennlist.com/forums/showpost...1&postcount=32

and the thread in which he said it (when Gant was trolling last time)

The situation you outlined is not what ususally happens.

If your friend asks you to run a Carfax report on a car and you agree to do so, that is stealing. If he wanted the report, he should have to pay Carfax for it. If you ran the Carfax for him, he would avoid paying Carfax for the report.

If you have some computer software that your friend wants, do you let him load your copy on his PC or do you tell him to buy his own?

Because running a VIN report on a Cadillac won't help you much if you are buying a Porsche!

You're just encouraging him. Next thing you know he'll be getting the impulse to go out and buy a yellow submarine.

You're right. I guess I deserved that... It's just that I noticed the sticky thread there and thought, what a contrast. I guess Caddy owners have no morals and we're the moral police!

I cannot comment on the morals, but I would hope that some of us know right from wrong.

...although it was a good way of reminding the newer members that this is a no-no, so you can be commended for that.
