Resetting the "brake wear" dash light

Ok, another novice question....The "break wear" sensor light came on after a DE in Mid October. I knew the pads were fine as they were nearly new (90%front and 100%rear, new). Today my Mx changed my wheels and showed me the problem. He wired it and tested the circuit for all four wheels.... AOK. When I drove away I noticed the sensor light on the dash was still on. Is there an easy way to 'reset" the sensor light on the dash? Thanks.

There is no reset for the warning light. If a pad sensor is worn through the circuit is broken and the light goes on. If all the sensors are ok the light should go off. If the sensors are OK check the wiring and connections.

You can try putting the ignition to "ON" position without firing the engine and let it sit there for 30+ sec. That's how most BMW's have their brake pad wear light get reset.

Thanks, I will try the BMW technique. My Mx did put a circuit tester on all four and they all completed the circuit...hmmmmm...
thanks for your suggestions.

BMW method will not work. It is a simple mechanism that is triggered by a sensor (either open circuit or connection problem).
Since I do all the work myself on the brakes, I do not use the sensors. Mine are tied up away from the braking system in the wheel well.

Have you tried to change the pad sensor? I believe they are less than $10.

No, I haven't. The reason is that i thought the one sensor was the problem and my Mx bypassed that one sensor. We both thought we were done until I drove off and the light was still on. I should have turned around but I thought "I can get the light off by looking it up in the driver's manual or asking my rennlist guys". For $10. I can replace each sensor and check the light after each. Thanks.

I just replaced the pads on all four corners. I dead shorted all the sensors except the front right. I put a new sensor there. I figure the pads wear close enough to the same rate that the one corner is all I need. Even if they don't, my favourite track is pretty much all left handers, so I figure the right front will be the worst case scenario.
I'll keep an eye on 'em anyway. They can be inspected without taking the wheel of after all.

Fo back through and make sure they r fully pluged into the connectors.
As a test u can take 1 of your old ones, twist the 2 wires together and use it at each corner to determine which harness is not working properly.

This may not directly solve your problem but it may indirectly. Consider removing the sensors. I had my indy take them off back in 2006. Never missed them.

Well, this old thread just answered a question I had. When I replaced the pads a few weeks ago at least two of the pads were worn enough to expose the sensor wire yet my brake wear light never came on. I thought it was contact with the rotor that did it. Apparently you have to rub the wire all the way through so it breaks the circuit.
