Default 04 996 40th anniversary Car for Sale

I knew this day would come and that it would be a bitter/sweet moment for me but it's time to part with my baby. What I have is a nice street car that's a lot of fun as a daily driver and as a DE car. I'm now ready to get into racing and want to buy a dedicated track car (full roll cage, etc.). This car is too nice to weld and cut and it doesn't make sense for me to keep both cars so I need to find a new home for my baby.

The car has 38,xxx miles and a Porsche factory warranty that's valid until 50k miles or August '08. I had a brand new transmission and clutch installed a few months ago.

Should I.....
A) Return the car to stock and sell it with the OEM equipment?? If so, what's
a fair asking price???

If I return the car to stock, the car would be advertised as follows:
-40th anniversary pkg (X51, updated trim, polished 5 spoke wheels, etc. etc.)
-CD changer
-Heated leather seats
-Bose system
-Navigation
-Clear bra
-clear turn signals (should add about $3k to the asking price)

or

B) Sell the car as/is? If so, what's a fair asking price???
The as/is option would include:
-Euro GT3 seats
-Tequipment roll bar
-GT3 anti-sway bars
-GT3 front control arms
-GT3 brake ducts
- In car camera set-up
- 4 sets of wheels (polished '02 5 spoke for the streets, '02 5 spoke painted black for the track, solid turbo twist, BBS GT-RS)

'Nupe - sorry to see you do this.

I think you would come further ahead dollar wise if you put her back to stock and sold the DE parts separately. Of course, that dosen't count your time to remove/replace the items.

Don't sell, just go ahead and use it for your racing needs, if you don't someone will eventually, and you might as well start of with a car you already know inside and out, it will be one of the best looking cars out there too

But if you decide to sell, then if you have time put it back to stock to sell it quicker.

Keep us posted.

There are a lot of sentimentalists around here, hu?
I say: sell it and buy a GT3. No looking back and I assure you wont regret it for a minute. Don't even think of selling the car with those mods. The 40 years edition buyers are collectors. They will back off if they see signs of heresy into a such exclusive model. Put it back 100% stock.

The only way I'd race a GT3 is if I bought a cup car...... and I'm not ready for that yet. Putting a full roll-cage etc. in a street GT3 would give me more of a FrankenCar than the car that I have.... except it can't be reversed.

However, I have given a lot of thought to (and still often contemplate) having a street GT3 as a dedicated track car for a couple of years and then get into racing. Decisions, decisions, decisions......

OK, so the general consensus from you guys and the racer board is to return the car to stock. Makes sense. Any one care to take a stab at recommneding a fair asking price????

Agree with the others, 40th buyers are looking for a well-trimmed interior w/o the go-fast bits; you'll do better selling those separately (and it sounds like you might need the GT3 seats for your next baby, anyway).

Good luck - I'd ask mid $50s with 38K miles.

SAY IT AINT SO!!!!
At least I got to go for a last ride in it yesterday, but who will keep pushing me to get faster if you go to bsr or v3? If you do decide to part it out, I will be interested in some of those parts.

I have driven this car before and it is very well setup and a beautiful car.

So it's a 40th...it won't be anything special when the 50th comes out, the 40th is a fad that will only last 10 years, after that it is just another model.

So I am on the same page as you here and you have already done your research and know what to do next, I'm just going to add my 2 pennies:

1. Put the car back to stock and sell it.
2. Sell the stuff you took out of the car.
3. Buy yourself a GT3 because a GT3 is a track car and that is what you are looking to do.

This is why I am going to DE my car the way it is now, and when I can afford it buy a GT3 for true tracking. So I am going to try my best to not have to modify my car for tracking like you did, but that is easier said than done

It looks like CPO 40th cars from dealers in socal (typically a premium imo) are going for mid-high 50's asking price...but the two dealers I have been watching cars at haven't sold them priced there over the last month or so....I am guessing private party at mid to low 50s with your mileage...just my opinion.
