Default Is this a good deal?

Hi 996 guys,

As you can see from my sig I currently have a 993 cab but have been thinking of picking up a 996 coupe for DE/track days. Does this coupe seem like a good deal? I've had my eye out for a 2002+ for the hp bump. This car is relisted with a lower price from a couple of weeks ago. No affilation with seller.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWA:IT&ih=020

TIA for your opinions,

Derek

Does the 2002 have the 3 radiators? If I was going to DE my 996, that's one mod I would do very quickly.
1999 996's in the 50-60k mile range can be had for mid $20's, if that helps.

The 1999 would make an excellent track / DE car... It has less HP but it is also lighter and it uses a mechanical throttle instead of drive by wire that the newer cars have. In my 2000, the drive by wire gives a slightly delayed response and makes heal/toe braking that much tougher. Also, since the price is so much lower, it gives you more for mods and the likelyhood that it will retain its value better. I can't see them dropping in price lower than they are...although I didn't think they would get this cheap so what do I know?

I would look for one with LSD. Good luck. That car you listed does seem like a good deal...

Derec - I don't know if this makes any difference or not but the car has 17" wheels 7" wide on the front and 9" wide on the rear.

IMO if you only want the car for DE track, I would rather pick a 964

If you can get that for the starting price, buy it contingent on inspection. Great price.

It's a pretty reasonable price for an 02, definitely get a ppi though. FWIW, the savanna beige interior does not hold up well to abuse (you mentioned track car), it scratches/chips easily if that matters to you. Also check out the carfax, most likely a lease turn in, which is not necessarily bad, but probably won't have any maintenance history.
