Default What type bolt holds seat rail down?

I was going to try an mount my XM-Skyfi2 using a gooseneck mount connected to the front passenger seat rail. What kind/type bolt are they using. Five/six pointed start type head? Whatever happened to the hex head bolts from the 993.

Thanks.

It's an external torque. E13 I think but I could be wrong.

Pretty sure it's E12.

If the bolt is not on real tight you might get it out with a 3/8" socket.

When you put it back in, remember it's not a normal bolt. You notice it's not round, but sort of 3-lobed. It'll cut threads, so be careful to thread it right!

I just purchased for $5.99 a set of TORX sockets (gotta love Harbor Freight for those one time use tools!). It is a 12. I'll give it a try this evening.

I assume these bolts are reusable, not sure about the cutting new threads comments...

They are reusable, just be careful when putting them back in.

Just don't disconnect any wires or all that money saved at harbor frt will be spent clearing the code.

I'm pretty sure that's only true if both of the following are true:

1. You turn the ignition on while the seatbelt receiver is disconnected.
2. Your dealer doesn't like you.

My gosh, it's frustrating when cars are so complex that pulling a seat rail bolt can trigger alarm codes that you have to get a dealer to reset! Now at least I know to be very careful!

If you do not disconnect the wires then you will not get an airbag light.
The key in the ignition activates the airbag circuit (even if the key is Off) so if you want to be safe when removing a seat take the key out of the ignition and disconnect the battery.

I'm laughing out loud (and too damn old to type "LOL").

You are correct that all will be OK if the key is left OFF.
More importantly, you confirm my experience that Porsche dealers vary wildly in what they charge / how they treat such issues. In Atlanta, Hennessy Porsche (who did not sell me my car, nor has ever done major maintenance on it) has always been more than reasonable when I needed a key mated to my car, or a radio code, or such thing.

On the other hand, I have read here of astronomical sums being charged for the same type services .... even to owners who bought their cars at the offending dealer.

Takes all kinds, I guess.
