That was the DSP (digital signal processing) option. On the 996 I think it was used from 1999-2001 and then replaced by the Bose option.

That thing above the gas pedal is the cruise control unit for a non e-gas car.

Tool Pants, thanks....I'm hoping that my throttle cable isn't cooked. I'm sure that it will be a major pain to replace if it is. You obviously know your 996s. I'm going to buy the GT3 upper center console delete from Suncoast. I will delete the factory stereo and have an aftermarket stereo system installed after I get the car driveable. That way I don't have to deal with compatibility issues on the wiring harness from the donor car.
Does anybody know how to remove the guage cluster???

I can't believe the stereo is welded in place. That is nuts!

From memory.... pry the hazard bezel, pop the button out (screw in there). Pry microphone (left side) cover (screw in there). Lift entire cluster up... unclip 3 harnesses and two extra screws at back... if my memory serves me right.

Loren, I just joined your site...Thanks. Redridge, your instructions worked perfect. I was afraid to pry on the hazard bexel...the retainers were partially melted. I'm to the point where I'm going to have to use a pry bar on some of the melted plastic...the thought of it makes me cringe.

Mark: I have been looking for one that a friend burned for me that has all the Credence Clearwater and some good rock songs on it....I think it was in the car when it went up.....are they warped? Were they in the CD holder or in the side pockets? There was on BB King CD I really liked.

Damn Mark....looking at all those pictures it's no wonder AAA totalled the car. You've got more guts and gumption than most guys to tackle a project like this....it looks a bit overwhelming to me....and it also looks like there was more of a fire than I initially thought.

Have you found a replacment airbag and steering wheel yet?

Considering the topic... too funny!!!!

Now, were you talking about a CD or the car?

Chuck, the CD holder is full. They all appear fine, as long as the dry chemical didn't hurt them. There is one in the player that I will try to salvage. The songs might be really burned on there now.

Tim: You're always on top of it aren't you....you caught my sort-of Freudian slip. Can't get a damn thing by you can I ?

Mark: Are you going to be home tomorow? I might take a run up there and pick up the CDs? I also have a stock set of 996 headers if you want them. Won't do me any good.

PL - were you thinking of Rob M Budd in this thread?

https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...hlight=leather

Rob M Budd and 928..... hhmmm.... not seeing the connection. You know as you get older the 2nd thing to go is your memory, but I can't for the life of me remember the 1st thing to go!
