Default Question re: Cabriolet top

Hi,

I am a Porsche newbie. I recently bought a 2000 Carerra 4 Cabriolet. Several things need attention the first of which is a very slow operating Convertible top. I understand it is a hydraulic system.

Questions: 1) How do I explore the hydraulic system, to check if it is just low on hydraulic fluid. 2)If this is not the fix do I replace the motor(s)? 3)Anyone know of a schematic that can help me. 4) How difficult is it to disconnect the hydraulic system and go manual until I get it figured out?

Thanks,
Andy T

Andy - Welcome to Rennlist and Congrats on getting your Cab! It is customary for "newbies" to 1) introduce themselves, 2) tell us a little about the car, options, color, etc., and 3) post a couple of pics of the car. Well, you did #1, but not #2 or #3.

Normally we don't help newbies until they post pics, but I'll make an exception for you (just kidding about the "don't help newbies until they post pics" part).

Here is a link that will probably help resolve your problem. Your car is 8 years old and the hydraulic fluid probably needs to be changed. Check out the bottom of post #4 for the DIY on how to change the hydraulic fluid. You will need to join RenTech.org to be able to view the DYI, but it is free to join.

https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ight=hydraulic

Oh, and one last thought... come on "newbie," post the !@#$%^&* pics! (BTW - all of the other guys make me yell at the newbies)

Again, welcome to Rennlist.

Ask and ye shall receive! BTW - options to resize your pics are at the bottom.

Here are my "can't miss" instructions for posting a pic. These instructions have NEVER failed to help someone post pics, so the pressure is on YOU to keep my string alive!

All words shown in BOLD indicate buttons. If you are just doing a "Quick Reply" you will have to click on Go Advanced button. Then follow the steps below:

Down below the part of the screen where you type the text and below the Submit Reply, the Preview Post, and Spell Check buttons, there is a Miscellaneous Options section followed by an Attach Files section.

In the Attach Files section, click on the Manage Attachments button.

You will now get a pop-up window. There are 3 buttons Browse, Upload, and Close this Window.

Click on the Browse button and now (in a new pop-up window) you can search on your PC to locate the pic you want to attach. Click on the name of the file you want and then click the Open button. Now click on the Upload button. After the file has been uploaded, you can click on Browse button and repeat the process to upload another pic or click on the Close this Window button.

After you click on the Close this Window, you will be back to the original "message" screen. Your pic file should be listed just above the Manage Attachments button.

If you are finished typing the text, you can click on the Submit Reply button and everyone will be able to see your great looking P-car!

If your pics are too large, you can resize them with MS Paint, or PhotoShop software, or you can do it online at this web site. http://www.resize2mail.com/

Chuck, you're back "slumming" again, huh?

I didn't recall that you were one of my pic "disciples." Was I nice to you back then, or did I give you the old "come on newbie, post the !@#$%^&* pics!" speach? If I was nice, I apologize, 'cuz I was probably having a bad day!

Your new avatar looks AWESOME! BTW - I ain't going anywhere, but the car has got to go. New business didn't work out. I'm back in the job market.

FWIW, my top goes up much better when I keep the rpm between 1500 and 2000. At idle it won't clamp down most of the time.

No Tim....actually back then you were the same butt-head you are now....but I do believe you're starting to mellow. Yep...slumming. This 996 board is one of the more active and informative forums...kinda like old home week.

Nice looking cab Apter.....needless to say, I'm partial to blue.
