Joe, I paid $20,000 for my Vesuvio car back when it was worth about $45,000. I currently have about $35,000 into it, including the mods. It was very labor intensive. It has always been a labor of love. If I wanted to make a few quick dollars, I would repair & sell Chuck's car that I just purchased (Iris Blue). I paid $11,921. and can purchase the parts to rebuild it for about $1,500. It will have an upgraded leather dash, numerous mods (PSS9s, SSK, EVO CAI, RSS Plenum, GIAC flash, Billy Boat headers & mufflers, and polished 18s). It has 32,000 miles, a 6spd with LSD, and will be worth closer to $30,000. I will be keeping it because it has a 6 speed with LSD and will make a better track car. Check out the IAAI site (insurance auto auction) if you want to see what kinds of projects you might be interested in. Click on the Hummer icon (Hot picks of the week) to look at a sampling of the available cars without joining.

Scott, thanks...I'm sure the first time that I drive in traffic, I'll miss the tiptronic.

Michael & DFC, thanks guys, I'll post lots of pictures of the new project.

GL with the sale Mark. We all know how special the car is to you. I know you will find a new owner who appreciates the car just as much as you.

Nicolaas, How does 5 miles or 5 minutes (whichever comes first) sound?
Chao, Thank you. I hope I find a new owner that enjoys it as much as I have. It was the start of what I'm sure will be a life-long love affair with Porsche. I would love to someday have the aero kit on the blue 996, it looks fantastic on yours.

Okay Mark....but DO NOT I !!!! return it to stock.......I have seen the "crispy stock" images and man you did a hell of a job......I think I said this before...I wish I had the skills and the guts to start a project like that!!

Goodluck with the sale. Won't be hard.....just refer the potential buyer to this forum!!

Nicolaas, I thought the crispy critter look worked pretty well for Chuck Jones....he didn't even have to pay to advertise his and some moron bought it.....oh wait, I guess that moron was me.
Thanks for the compliment about the car. I wish it was guts or talent that motivated me to take on the salvage projects. I fear it is an illness. I am lucky that I have a tolerant wife. I almost made the fatal mistake of trying to sell her SL600 so we could keep both of the Porsches I won't do that again. Apparently not everybody cares how fast a car will go around corners.

I envy all you guys that have multiple P-cars residing in your garages (especially the ones that are actually driveable). Someday......

kgs365, you read my mind. I have been watching that GT3 for over a month, it just went up for auction today. I didn't get to watch the auction, so I don't know what it sold for...the last online bid was $33,000. I couldn't bid on it because I currently have 3 other project cars that I bought in the last month. That Gt3 looked fantastic...it would have been a bargain up to about $50,000. Oh well.

my wife won't touch the Porsche ....she hates it....too low...too bumpy. I know she likes the SL's a lot, but I prefer her in her X5...nice and high and a lot of airbags to protect her and the kids...she isn't a very good driver...I am thinking of a H2 Hummer...for even more metal mass around her.

Keep us updated with the images...of your new project....and don't worry about the illness it isn't deadly and with an understanding wife I can be a perfect cure against boredom!!!
