Default Is there a different front bumper on aero 2002?

I know the aero kit on the 99-01 has a different front bumper than the regular. The regular 2002 bumper is different than the regular 2001 but is there a different bumper with the aero setup?

Thanks.

Great question...and I am wondering the same thing. My understanding is that the aero kit was not available in 02. You could add the rounded MKI sideskirts and the XAG fixed rear wing, no front bumper option.

I understand the bumper improvements in 02 made the stock version the equivalent of the "aero" bumper, and you can add a rear spoiler with no problem. Can anyone confirm this?

For narrow body cars there are 2 aerokits - one for MY99-01 and one for MY02-05.
The early one was called Aerokit Cup and the MY02 and newer was called Aerokit Cup II.
Both kits included a new (but different) front bumper, rear spoiler and sideskirts.

I was looking through the 02 order options for the C2 coupe, and the only aero option listed is the XAG rear wing, and the X76 sideskirts (which are the rounded MKI version, my car had that factory option and that is what is on it). I believe it specifically states that there is no longer a full aero kit available (no XAA or XAE). There is no front aero bumper-at least that I could find for 02.

Now I could be wrong...the 02 (and maybe 03) seem to be some sort of transition years for the aero. Any other thoughts?

Aerokit Cup and Aerokit Cup II
Both have front bumper, sideskirts and rear wing.

This is the bumper that I've seen shown with '02s reported to have factory aero. I believe this is the same as normal coupes.

Smithk993- Correct, that bumper in your pic was the only bumper available on the 02's. The Cup kit should work, Loren definitely knows more about that than I would.

You are correct...for 02 cars you could only get the fixed cab wing and the sideskirts from the factory. When I ordered mine I was told that there was not an aero kit available from the factory( at least early 02's-mine was Nov 01). The only options at that time were the fixed wing and the sideskirts. In my very limited high speed use, I would say that the factory front bumper is not even close to an aero one, as the front end will become very light, very quickly at triple digit speed. IMHO if you plan on tracking it, at least try to find a front splitter or even better a new bumper or a whole new kit.

I don't think that is the correct bumper for '02 Aerokit cars, but maybe for Cup II kits?? I have looked through my option codes, but I can't identify the aerokit option. Here is the list in case I made a mistake:

CO2 - Catalytic Converter
IXPA - 3-SPOKE SPORTS STEERING WHEEL IN LEATHER INTERIOR COLOUR
IX97 - Aluminum / Leather Shift ****
IX98 - Aluminum / Leather Parking Brake Handle
IX99 - NATURAL LEATHER
M265 - AUTOMATIC ANTI-DAZZLE INTERIOR MIRROR WITH RAIN SENSOR
M266 - AUTOMATIC ANTI-DAZZLE EXTERIOR MIRROR
M288 - HEADLAMP WASHER
M425 - REAR WINDOW WIPER
M601 - HEADLAMP LITRONIC
M662 - INFO/NAVIGATION SYSTEM
M680 - -MJ 01 DIGITAL SOUND PACKAGE MJ 02- SOUND SYSTEM BOSE ANALOG
M692 - CD-CHANGER "PORSCHE "
M999 - PASSENGER COMPARTMENT MONITORING SENSOR FOR LEATHER COLOUR OF CHOICE
09991 - Deviated Stitching on Exclusive Options
21431 - ???

I thought the Aerokit was option IXAA. I am starting to wonder if my Aerokit as added later. It does seem to be factory parts though, here is a company selling Porsche parts and my kit is identical to the 4S aerokit http://www.departstop.com/996TTAERO.htm. They separately list the Cup II kit, to confuse me more. There is also a photo on Wikipedia showing the same front bumper.

Anyone else have an '02 aerokit with photos and option codes? Anyone? Anyone?

I have a kit, but by Ruf which I really like. The only downside is that it generates a lot more attention than stock. Lots of gawkers and random people driving up beside me, honking and giving the ol' "thumbs-up."

Yes, looks nice. I was about to make a "pumpkin" comment, though I see that was already done.

funny, when I first got the car, I had a lot of gawkers, but a few months later dosen't seem to happen anymore. I chalk it up to the change of seasons.

The GT3 aero kit from 04 is the one normally installed. Here is the one I put on my 02 along with the matching side skirts.

Does anyone have pics of a car with the MKII and MKI aero kits mixed? I ask because my 02 came with the MKI rounded side skirts from the factory. I would like to add a bumper and/or spoiler at some point, and like the MKII versions of those. I would prefer not to have to change my original MKI sideskirts. I guess I have the option to go all MKI, but like the MKII bumper and spoiler better.

On a related note, how much different are the 02 stock and MKII aero front bumpers? I see the aero has the two dividers in the bottom vent, but the general shapes look very similar. Has anyone had a chance to closely examine both and if so, how much difference is there?

Normally as in non-factory optioned? Nice shiny red, by the way.

It looks like there are different kits for the narrow and wide bodies. I think Loren made it quite clear the narrow body factory kits use a different front bumper. I was told mine was factory, but who knows, that was a used car dealer talking.

Funny, I was thinking I like the MKI bumper better. Grass is always greener...
