Default why is the '99 superior to all years?

I'm told the '99 is the lightest and fastest of the bunch and Mk II's are ladden with motor failures and RMS issues. Obviously the weight advantage is huge................ Were the motors built by shorter factory workers than in the later years, I'm told this could account for the difference. I'm sorry for all of the MK II owners but at least it's water cooled and an improvement over the ill fated 993.

Haven't heard that - I bet you heard it from a 99 owner ;-)

The later models are supposed to have less engine and RMS failures... And the 3.6 are faster AFAIK.

We see the RMS failure across the board- everyone has their opinion as to what year it seems to happen most with, but from an un-biased opinion I'd say it has more to do with luck than model year unfortunatly.

Has an RMS leak caused an engine failure??? Or is it just in fact a leaky seal that needs to be replaced when it starts leaking too much?

99's are lighter but its not a huge difference, they were also the only year that Porsche offered a LSD in the n/a 996.

What is that about? ill fated, please explain?

The 99 has the lowest HP 296 vs 300 and 320 for later models but is as you state the lightest of the bunch. It is also the only model where a LSD was available other than the 40th anniversary edition.

The only advantage is the mechanical throttle vs. e-gas and if the car has the LSD option.

Disadvantages - porous block issues and if the car doesn't have full leather you get the basketball dash material.

I will go out on a limb and say it would be very difficult for anyone to convince me ANY first generation model year is the best.

Who told you this???

I think your Multiple Personality disorder is getting worse

The presence of two or more distinct identities or personality states (each with its own relatively enduring pattern of perceiving, relating to, and thinking about the environment and self).

At least two of these identities or personality states recurrently take control of the person's behavior.

Inability to recall important personal information that is too extensive to be explained by ordinary forgetfulness.
We can get you the help you need

I've got a 99, early 98 build, with the basketball interior, and no lsd. I agree it is a vastly superior car than all later models. Anyone want to trade their 200_ for my 99

As a 99 owner, I think it is a stretch to say it is the best year. Certainly there are aspects of that particular year if you have some of the options available that make it a little nicer of a car for track use. But as with anything the factory keeps making them a little better every year, usually.

Now as for this thing about the 99 engine being the most bullet proof.. Never heard that before but like someone said that wouldn't hurt

99's are MORE prone to engine failure....RMS is probably about the same..the car is SLIGHTLY lighter, and LSD was an option in that car, as well as a mechanical throttle vs. e-gas.....
