1999 996 Oil pressure at idle

Hi all,
We have a 1999 996 C2 which we've had for about 5 years now. Until recently we've never really paid too much attention to the oil pressure at idle, but lately it seems a little lower than normal. The car has about 145,000km on it.
When it is fully warmed up, at idle (around 7-800 rpm) it seems to be around 1.25-1.5 bars. I remember it being more around 2 to 2.5 bar when it had fewer miles. When you move off (rev) the pressure come back up an is usually about 5 bar at 3,000km unless extremely hot. The engine uses no more oil than it ever did (usually not enough to bother filling up between 7-10,000km oil change intervals). Oil pressure light has never come on.
Should I be worried? All the manual says it that the pressure should be a minimum of 3 bar at 5,000 rpm. If my oil pressure was only 4 bar at 5K I think I'd be worried...
Any input appreciated!
Jeff

Jeff: I think it's great that you've got a car with almost 145,000km on it and it's still going strong. You've obviously taken great care of it, and it's giving you longevity, reliability, and pleasure in return.

Hi all,
Thanks for the feedback. Good to know that others' oil pressure are in the same range.
Actaully, all things considered, the car has been reasonably reliable. An a/c line had to be replaced a few years ago, as well as the mass air flow sensor and a cam position sensor I believe. Even when the clutch was replaced (normal maint.) there were no signs of rms problems, although it was replaced anyway.
After all these miles - the only existing problems are one of the cooling fans doesn't come on high properly at radiator so that needs to be fixed ASAP, and the engine lifters are quite noisy when first started. Once the car is driven down the street to the first stop sign - quiet. The prospect of replacing all the lifters (if possible) isn't particularly appealing... I've heard that a lot of these cars suffer from lifter noise at idle when cold however.

Ditto with Chuck Jones
When I buy a Porsche, I buy it to drive it! I've had mine since 4-24-07 and already have 5,000 miles I've put on it! My drive to work is 40 miles, all country roads and I drive it like the Nberg ring
.
When I hit 4,000 rpms, I remember why I love these cars so much. You'd think I'd get enough with racn my 964 but I just don't.
Good luck with it.
I wonder what the most miles any Rennlist member has put on a 996? I'm at 65,000 and going strong!!!

How many rpm are you running at idle? 3.75 seems a bit high...not too sure what that means....but the mearsurements don't mean much until we can agree upon what rpm we're all running when you say you're at idle? I run around 1.5 bar at 650 rpm after the car has reached normal operating temps.

I can't say the exact rpm, but from the gauge it seems around 700 rpm (a bit less than 800 anyway). When you first start the car and the oil is cold, the pressure at idle is 5 bar!

My Car is at 2.5 bars at warm idle 750 rpm and I hit 4.5 bars at warm rev 3000 rpm. It seems that we are kind of all over the place.....I'm going to replace my sensor unit since I dont know how old the other is.....also the gauge needle bounces around a little
