My buddy in Orlando told me that the passenger side window on his '01 cab shattered when he barely touched it. It's since been replaced, but he is curious as to how this could possibly happen. He mentioned that he had the windows tinted a few weeks ago - is there anything in that process that could cause a window to fail like that, a heat treatment/scoring the film with a razor/???? Or could there have been a latent defect in the glass from the start?
Never heard of this one myself, and if the search function is to be believed, there hasn't been a rash of incidents like this, not on any model P-car.

I once had my brand new Acura Integra tinted and tint shop installer put a small crack on my rear hatchback window. Of course, installer have denied and said they did not put the crack on the window. There was no way to prove the crack came from the installation process.
When tint installers install the tinting film on the window, they use HEAT GUN to dry initially. Sometimes they creat a small crack on windows.
Guess what, My rear windows shattered into pieces one day with no apparent reason in my parking lot. But mine shattered after few years though.
But I suspect the HEAT GUN damaged your friend's window.

Hey little boy - is that your mommy over there? Does she like tall guys?
Sorry - can't help with the window problem b/c I am extremely distracted by the blond.

window film works because it rejects AND absorbs the heat, thus keeping more of the infrared rays OUT. Anytime there is any stress to the glass, either with an installer or from the factory, typically on the edge, this decreases the strength of the glass by as much as 50%. Add heat absorbing window film to a "distressed" piece of glass, and you can just wait it out, it will pop!
