Default Engine trouble

I'm looking for some help, I have a 1999, 996 with 50,800 miles. While I may drive it fast at times I am not hard the car, The other day while driving (45 mph in traffic) to work, the engine just quit (no power) I coasted to the side of the road and attempted to start the car. It would turn over but not start. I had it towed to a garage (specializes in Porsche) and was told that there was major internal damage (no compression). It was explained to me, that though rare, the cause of the failure may have been a bolt(s) backing out internal to the engine into the gears. Has this happened to anyone? Was there a recall on this issue? This just doesn't seem right.

Timing chain or intermediate shaft? Doubt they checked compression on all cyls. Probably just picked one that had valve(s) open.

I'm confused about the explanation. We need some more information. Sounds like Timing chain to me though, since if there is no compression, that must mean the crank isn't moving at all.

If the valves are bent, there wont be any comporessoon either.
