Default What wrench is this? (Cleaning MAF)

I'm getting ready to clean my mass airflow sensor. Any pointers as to what sort of wrench I need for this - looks like a torx wrench, but has a bit of metal in the center.

Yeah, just a torx and a squeeze on the release clamps.

That is a security torx bolt and is removed with a torx bit that has a hole in the center. You can find them at practically any hardware store.

Harbor freight has a great selection of these and they're really reasonable. Doug is right on..."Security Torx" is what they're called. I just picked up a complete set for about $7.00.

I would recommend going to Sears and getting a complete set of various security torx bits as well as their set of three small rachets with various offset for the bits (sorry I don't have the exact item #'s. These really really make the job easy.

I picked up a set at Sears - they only sold them in sets, and wanted $40 for it. Argh. May stop at a local store tomorrow as I did not find the electronic cleaner at the few stores I tried.

I got my security torx bits at Pep Boys for less than $10 for a small set.

Not sure yet. Looking for electronic cleaner - something that plays nice with plastic. So far, no joy on that. One silver lining, however - when I went to the electronics section at Sears they had a Wii in stock. At least my little one is happy.

The CRC electronic cleaner in the spray can is the same dogone thing as what they've now labeled CRC MAF Air Sensor cleaner.....just labeled it with MAF in it and probably charge more. The electronic cleaners don't affect the plastic. They use the CRC to clean the contacts and connectors in stereo equipment, computers etc....so it certainly won't hurt your MAF.

Just don't use the tool more than once. Bioling water does not work well as a heat treat process

I found a can of CRC Electronic Cleaner at the local hardware store - along with a set of tamper resistant torx wrenches.

At first, things looked really good. Engine warmed up, with readings of:

Adaption, range 2 (FRA), bank 1: 98%
Adaption, range 2 (FRA), bank 2: 99%

Drove into the office and picked up my little one from school. By the time I got home, however, things started to look a bit more grim.

Adaption, range 2 (FRA), bank 1: 1.24%
Adaption, range 2 (FRA), bank 2: 1.24%

So... Not quite enough to throw the CEL back on yet, but not good. Looks like I'm getting a new MAF.
