Did you have to space out the front wheels?

These might be my favorite OEM wheels. They look great on a 996.

They don't fit the car. I'm looking to trade them for 18" wheels.

There is slight cosmetic rubbing in the front wheel well, no big deal.

There is occasional rubbing on a strut in the rear under hard driving conditions (when I flex the sidewalls), which will eventually ruin my tires.

If you have a garage queen, or a parade queen, these tires are great. If you actually drive it hard, I don't recommend it. And I've gotten about 20 strong comments about how wrong I am, but I'm going with the evidence and with the mechanics on this one.

These are 997 take off wheels, and are about 1" total diameter too large (which is what causes the rubbing in the front), and the rears are fully 1" too wide, which no amount of spacing is going to fix.

Anyway, I have a standing offer to trade down, in or near San Diego. I want the 5-spoke lightweight 18", with new tires. I have the tires above, with nearly new tires (~3000 total miles). If you are interested, toss me a PM. =)

And yes, the wheels look very nice on the car, I wouldn't trade them out unless there was rubbing.

I know you have some rubbing which is NOT normal.....I have the same size 997 wheels on my car and there is NO rubbing...also the 996 GT3 narrow body uses 11" wheels in the rear with NO rubbing. now my car is lowered and my alignment may be different...I drive it VERY hard....yes get 15mm spacers in the front or they will look too stuck in the fender....btw..if you dont wanna buy them, lemme know..I am gonna buy a set as an alternate wheel for my car and I'll take them. There are plenty of guys with these 997 19" wheels on their 996's and this is the ONLY one that I have heard of with issues....so I would say its something specific with this car, not the wheels....

Is it possible you're running the tires which came with the wheels originally? The 997 tires? Those would produce a size which is a too large. You'd have to drop to a lower profile tire to offset the increased diameter I would think in order to make them fit right.

I looked at the 19's myself but knew that I'd have to buy just the wheels and new tires which are right sized for my vehicle.

Yes, the rubbing on the front would go away with the correct size tires. The rubbing on the back would not, as it is a sidewall rub, not a tread rub. I've been told that a different brand (Pzeros on it right now) might reduce the rubbing as well, as Pzeros are a bit fatter than a couple of the other options. Whatever, I really don't care about looks as much as proper fitment, so I will be switching once I burn through the tires OR if someone wants to do a trade.

I've got no issue with others that like to run these wheels on their 996, I'm just not planning on doing it longer than necessary myself. =)

have you had anyone OTHER than the one mechanic look at your car? Porsche can do a FREE inspection and tell you positively whats going on....like I said..your car is the ONLY one I have heard of with these issues...If you are running 997 C2 (19x11 et 67) wheels with 295/30/19 tires, thn there should be NO clearance issues...and like I mentiones before a 3mm or 5mm spacer will eliminate that if its there. The 996 GT3 ( I keep using that for reference beause is the same body as yours) uses a 18x11 et 63...so if you put a 5mm spacer, you would have a 19x11et62...narrow body cars can run all the way down to an 11 inch rim et55 without rubbing.....so maybe your alignment is REALLY out of spec or you actualy have 997 C4 wheels and those are wider and would definitely rub. I keep going back to these numbers because they dont lie. Now if you have a 305/30/19 tire on the rear that would explain he rubbing....you are adding 10mm width to the stock tire...on a 997 it would be no issue, and some do hat for a wider conac patch...in fact I think you can get that as an option from the dealer....so I would check your tire sizes and offsets.

Heres what Im getting. 19x8 57et in the front 19x11 67et in the rear tire 235/35/19 front 315/25/19 in the rear Toyo T1Rs. Someone has this same setup and no rubbing what so ever. I got aftermarket ones from Wheel Dynamics, real cool guys and they said too no issues with any rubbing with this setup tire and rim on 02+ 996s. Ill update when I put them on.

315/25's? Wow.....thats a pretty wide tire...I think the 295 would have less understeer....and the 30 series tire would be less harsh than the 25....

I agree, it's all about suspensions and set up... I would never go 19" without a different suspension than stock, I have HR coil-over and that mod came the day I got the wheels.
