OEM or Carbon Fiber Hood?
I am considering a carbon fiber hood for my vesuvio metallic 996. I have to repair the paint on my hood. It will cost more than installing a carbon fiber hood. I'm thinking about making the plunge and dropping over 20 lbs. off the front of my car. I do not want to make my car look like it belongs on "Pimp my Ride".
I would appreciate any advice before I do something stupid. Thanks.

Hamilton, I want to leave it unpainted. Your comment is my worry also.
Mr. C4, I think it would look fantastic on your car. I just worry about it blending with my color. There is a picture of 9ff's record setting car on the cover of the May 2005 issue of Excellence. It is your color with an unpainted carbon fiber hood, roof, and rear deck. It looks incredible.

Mark: I'm not sure that your vesuvio and the carbon would go together. I can see it with the arctic silver because the carbon fibre has that sort of silver color scheme in it, and the black also contrasts and compliments the silver....but vesuvio and CF....I'd really have to see it next to the paint, but my preliminary opinion is no....I think it would be a color conflict.

I hate being gouged just because I own a Porsche. Lets compare apples to apples. A HONDA ACCORD carbon fiber hood...what? Maybe $300-$400? Why is a 996 hood..that uses LESS CARBON FIBER, and therefore LESS WORK etc..cost 2oe 3xs as much? Makes no sense....
I swear I thought a carbon fiber hood for my car would be around $400 or $500 MAX....nope. Its crazy money.

Sounds like a possible group buy. Post up if anyone finds a good price/quality combination.
Mark -- I think CF is like a pair of Levis. It matches anything. (seriously.)

I don't think a CF hood (left unpainted) would look good on your car. I guess you could paint the CF, to get the weight savings, but in that case, other than the weight savings, what's the point?
Have you thought about a 993 style hood with the indentation (don't know how else to describe it) in the center of the hood that gets deeper as it moves back to the windshield. Those actually look pretty cool. Something like this:

You could also add a radiator vent, similar to the GT3 vent, to the front bumber (bumper would have to be modified). I have seen this combo a couple of times and it looks good. Just an alternate idea.
