Default What is factory Aero?

I have been thinking of moving up from my 78SC to a 996. I happen to think the ones with Aero Package look extremely nice.

I have noticed in my car searches that some Aero pakaged cars have the rear bumper that looks like all other 996's and some cars have a rear bumper that is slightly different behind the wheels.

Did Porsche offer both options?

The 996 that have the slightly different rear bumper behind the wheels are probably C4 or C4S (4 wheel drive) cars.

Tim I think he is referring to the winglets that came on the Aero package that most people did NOT add when adding the Aero kit post hoc.

Were the winglets part of the aero package or yet another option to add in addition to the aero package itself. The reason I ask this is that my 99 has the Aero Package code on the option sticker under the hood but no rear side GT winglets.

Intersting......IIRC the winglets were part of the aero.....maybe just teh MkI GT3 in Europe but I am almost positive they came with the US spec aero cars. If you added it after the fact you had to order the winglets in addition to the aero bits. The easiest way to tell if the aero was factory installed or not is under the front hood on the options sticker.

That's what I said in my post. My car has the Aero Code under the front hood yet there are no winglets. Other US cars that have the Aero kit from factory that I have seen also don't have the rear winglets.

I can read Paul. I understand what you said. What I stated was that I thought the winglets were part of the aero IIRC. I didn't say that they were but rather IIRC.

It doesn't mean that they weren't taken off at some point, does it?

.....personally I like it the way you have it. Not a big fan of the winglets here.

To the OP....just check the options sticker.

Taken off post-purchase? You sure, Dell? IIRC, the factory-installed winglets have mounting hardwares drilled into the rear bumper, and not just two-sided adhesives like after-market.

Christ, I just said that I didn't know for sure. IIRC means "if I recall correctly" which apparently I did not. It doesn't mean "I am 100%".

Paul's car is a good example of that.

....and as for the taken off statement, that is something that CAN be done. Think about all the "car never driven in rain" staements. Could have been body work done and the owner didn't like the winglets so chose to leave them off.

I confirm with Paul's info that the winglets was not part of US Aero package.
