OK, I took my car to the dealer today to determine the cause of the grease that had splattered all over the inside of the right rear wheel. I thought it might be a torn/ripped CV boot.
I get a call from the Service Advisor in the afternoon and he says something like "Well, we found the problem, but....... we have to order in the part. It was a broken coupler on the drive shaft. I spoke with a few of the techs out in the shop and none of them had EVER seen this before today."
My reply was, "Well, of course, it has to be something unusual! If something wierd or unusual is going to happen to any car, it most certainly will be my car!"
They are having the part(s) shipped overnight so I should get my baby back tomorrow.
Has anyone else ever experienced a drive shaft coupler failure?
BTW - They gave me a 2007 Cayenne S to drive. While I am not a big fan of SUVs, I must admit thata the Cayenne is a pretty nice vehicle.

I think Dell sould construct a 996 survey to find out the extent of this problem. Do you guys think it's ok to drive my car now, or should I put it in storage until Dell can publish his findings?

****, this is a tough crowd!
Now I know how the now famous "BOB" felt when he recounted that his engine blew up and later when it caught on fire!
I'm just glad the grease didn't ignite, burst into flames, and warped the drive shaft! Then the heat from the drive shaft would have melted the RMS and the repair to the RMS wouldn't be covered under warranty because it would judged to be caused by an "act of God."![surrender](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/surrender.gif)
There certainly is no sympathy or help, for that matter, to be found here!

What a crappy vehicle.....the Porsche SUV. Ha, bet you thought I was going to say 996
Noooo, I love 996's and no amount of breakage can change my opinion
I have owned 928's
