Default Badging on back, what's the difference?

Most 996s I see have the badging letters saying "Carrera" on the back under the wing. Some others say "911".

Are the 911 ones factory or someone do that aftermarket? If factory, why the difference?

911 are usually special edition models, could also be aftermarket. Im sure others will chime in on this

I *think* the only 996 to have "911" on the back was the 40th Anniversary special.

Other than that you can of course take a hairdryer to your existing badge to prise it off and stick on a new one - if you are so inclined......

My avatar is the stock badge on my '00 Millennium Edition. I believe this and the 40th Anniversary Edition were the only two models that had this badging as stock. I've seen them available from Eagle Day and maybe Suncoast.

This is correct. I have the "911" script on my car ('02 C2 996), but it came stock with the "Carrera" script. I purchased the new badge from Suncoast.

Correct, the 911 script was on the 00 Millenium Ed and 04 Anny ed. But as far as which one is proper, they both are. The script can be purchased at the dealer for about $20.

Mine says 996 just like my avatar. Only it's in black.

BTW in terms of batchs on the back - another very important detail:

As (cheep) part of the 02 facelift, Porsche moved the batch from above the bend to below the bend of the hood.

And, as they couldn't decide on this detail for the 997 (facelift), the just removed the bend in the hood.

So how did the badging come for the Carrera 4 version of the 911?

Was it:
911 4
911 - 4

OR
Did the 4 just get dropped?

thanks,
Amir

If I'm not mistaken, the Millennium Edition had the "911" (first pic) but the 40th Anniv edition had the "911" underlined (second pic). Subtle but different.

I have a 99 911, and it has the factory 911 on the rear of the car. I am the second owner. Does this mean the previous owner replaced it. Were there any 99s with 911 on the tail?

Michael, the previous owner had to of added it. No cars came with the 911 badge other than those already listed in this thread (00 Millenium Ed and the 04 Ann Ed)

Both the Millennium edition and the Anniversary edition only came in a C2.

FWIW there's a guy who works for Homeland Security who put the 911 badge on his car after 9-11.
