Default 996 wheels problem - need advice

I've been told by the dealer that the rear 18" on my new-to-me 03 "might" be bent a little, because they cannot balance them on the incredibly precise hunter machine...

I am not sure that they removed the tire, although if they had not it'd be a pretty stupid thing to say, but I can't be sure it's not the tire... Just in case, I'm gonna have another place remove the tires and inspect the rims ( they look perfect), balance them w/o tires and see who salutes. Is that a good test ?
Have you heard of those rims being out of balance without obvious bends ?

I've called wheel enhancement and they say those are strong light rims but so deep it could happen. $700 a pop though... Can anyone you guys know beat that ? (not italian replicas either)

Nothing I hate more than a vibration, but either way I am waiting for the ROW suspension install before I do anything...

Worth removing the tire, in case you have liquid in the tire causing the balance issues.

You can get them straightened for $125 a wheel.

Interesting, I was told twice (dealer + wheel enhancement) you could not straighten those !

Most of them on ebay are fakes though, and the oem ones are refurbs which for all I know could be as bad as mine might be... Just wondering if there is a plan C, like a source of cheaper new wheels from porsche, a sale or something ;-)

So there are fakes, and then there are OEM wheels that didn't come via Porsche.

The OEM wheels are your plan C - same wheel but cheaper.

Note that Porsche have their wheels manufactured by more than one OEM manufacturer any way, and there are differences in wheel quality because of this, even when you buy from the dealership.

Suggest you talk to WHEEL DYNAMICS in LA, as they know their P-car wheels.

Your Italian replicas may in fact be OEM manufactured equipment.

Other than getting lucky with a factory wheel on ebay, Wheel Enhancement has been the best source for wheels in my experience. I have purchased on 2 separate occassions "used" wheels from them. The wheels were in much better condition than they represented to me over the phone. No affiliation just a satisfied customer.

BBS makes that wheel and most of the Porsche forged wheels. Do not go cheap fakes, they will be heavy and you will get what you pay for. There are many repair shops that should be able to trade your wheel for a good one.
