Engine lid/wing question
I am contemplating a nicely loaded 2000 996 which has many options I like but one I'm not so sure about. It looks like a Techart type 2 wing, almost similar to a whale tail on a 3.2 but with small intakes on the sides. It's a fixed wing, meaning the rear spoiler has been disabled/removed. How difficult is is to remove and reconnect the spoiler? Obviously either a new lid or at least a new spoiler with be required. Is this wing desireable at all?
Thanks
David

David,
Usually you need to purchase a new engine lid with the standard spoiler assembly. If the aftermarket tail has been installed into the original lid it may not be worth trying to restore it to standard configuration. Check with the PO if he has the original engine lid and spoiler assembly.
You also have to check that the standard spoiler control system has not been removed. Usually it isn't, it's just disconnected, but check anyway because I have seen posts on the forums asking for instructions on how to remove them. Again might be worth speaking to the PO.
The choice of rear wing is very personal and a matter for your own taste. A fixed whale tail rear spoiler would not appear on my 996, but that is my choice and others have different tastes. You have to make the choice for yourself because what you like is all that really counts.
Ciao,
Adrian.

Based upon your description does your rear wing look like this? If so, this might give you an idea of the relative value.

Here are a couple of links to some ebay listings for engine deck lids.

Thanks for the input. It actually looks just like the 996 type 2 wing on the Techart website, I couldn't find anything else similar. I don't don't like it either, I was just wondering if it would be attractive to someone for a swap or sale. Looks like a used one shouldn't be too hard to find either.

I installed a OEM T/Tail on my '99 C2 cab.Plugs into factory harness and rises & lowers with speed as factory. I think the turbo tail is the best looking wing on a 996.

Thanks guys, I should be picking up the car this afternoon. It passed a PPI without problem. 1999C2Cab, definitely interested as the car is arctic silver as well. I'll contact you after I am able to take some pictures of the wing.
