Default Pocket just above knees on drivers side... what is it?

What is the pocket below dash....just above your knees on the drivers side? Is is for owners manual or something? I would like to remove mine, it is not in the way, but has no use to me. Cannot figure it out.

It is for the owner's manual, as their is no glovebox in earlier models. I have a 2000 and have the same "pocket". I don't know if it was discontinued with the MY '02 upgrades. You can search for posts here where a lot of people just pull it off. It doesn't sound difficult. Others have used it as a holster, so you can keep it and be creative if you like.

Or at 6'7", let it be something you keep banging your knee and shins into!

Part 2:
Does anyone know what to search under to find out how to remove? I have tried to remove and it looks like it is secured from the other side of the dash?

I don't think it is that Tim but hopefully he can enlighten us as to why he feels the need to yell all the time. Most of his posts are ALL CAPS!

You have to rip it out, seriously.

And its for the manual, not maps.

Wow! you're right most of his posts are shouting... the only think I can presume is that he's typing in a noisy environment.

I do want to pull mine out too... will that leave 2 holes!?

Is it easy to pull off?? Any tips?

(btw, I followed the comments from you guys... I successfully pulled off the sides of my lower center console, and taped a whole bunch of "felt tape" inside to stop some annoying rattlings!)

So here's a really lame question: Are they thinking you'd take the maual out of the case it comes in and put it into that pocket? Cuz the entire case won't fit, that's for sure. Sorry, I know this isn't one of the world's bigger problems, but just learning this Porsche stuff.
