I have the same model and it came with the solids. Swapped them out for hollows though.

Solids. I also bought a set of used TT hollows and they are lighter. Originals are now for winter use.

Is there a way to tell whether my wheels are hollow or solid without taking them (and the tires) off the car?

There are two ways I'm aware of... Hollow spokes have a lip (indentation) on the backside of the spoke. You can feel this by reaching around a spoke. They also have metal valve stems, as opposed to rubber.

Actually the hollows feel smooth and rounded around the back of the spokes while the solids have 2 ridges or grooves behind the spokes...I know it sounds like it should be the other way around, but it isn't. And the valve stems on hollows are metal with a visible nut at the base of them. If you have a C4S, it did not come from the factory with hollows.

I have the hollow wheels on a narrow body 996.

part#s are

993.362.136.00, 8x18, 52mm offset, tire size 225/40 ZR 18;
rears are part no. 993.362.140.01, 10x18, 65mm offset, tire size 285/30 ZR 18.

they are VERY light... lighter than my stock 17s, which are now for the winter tires.

for a wide body you want the 11 x 18, 45mm offset for the rear with 295/30 ZR 18 tires.

The only hollows available on a C4S were the sport technos, a 4k option. They came with 17mm spacers from the factory with a et 63.

I have both. The stock C4S wheels are solid, then I bought a set of "new" hollows off a 2003 turbo on eBay.

Hollows are definitely lighter and fetch a higher price either new or used. To be honest, though, I think the lighter weight is all about bragging rights more than anything else. I've tracked the car with both, and I can't tell the difference. They look the same since I have the full metal valve caps on the solids, and they feel the same on the track.

Those are 993 wheels, NOT 996.

They were 993/996 wheels... they were the optional turbo hollow spoke on narrowbody 996s... see the TSB
